New Graphite Comics Service to Be Like Netflix & Spotify for Digital Comics

Tues, Jun 11, 2019

In the world of digital comics and mobile development, one new app promises to stand out. Launched earlier today by Graphite Comics, Inc., Graphite promises to be the next revolutionary thing when it comes to consuming comics digitally. At launch, the app carries over 10,000 titles from a slew of independent comic publishers.

As it stands now, comics from BOOM! Studios, IDW, Legendary, Tokyo Pop, Aspen, Dynamite, Papercutz, and Top Cow can be found on the program.

Much like the music-streaming service Spotify, Graphite follows the freemium model with a free, ad-supported entry-level package. For those looking to browse comics without advertising, a paid package is available for $4.99 per month. On top of that, the Graphite team says it's has a revenue sharing plan in place with publishers and creators alike, giving those they partner with upwards of 70 percent of all advertising and subscription revenue.

In addition to the digital comics aspect of the app — which Graphite says is crafted with cutting-edge technolgy — there's a community portion in a place where fans can interact with like-minded readers.

Graphite is now available on iOS and Android.

Sony Announces a Reimagined Boondocks With Original Creator Aaron McGruder

The Freemans are coming back. Sony has confirmed that The Boondocks is returning with a new television show, and original creator Aaron McGruder is on board. They also revealed a show based on the late Anthony Bourdain’s graphic novel series, and revealed more on Phill Lord and Chris Miller’s much-anticipated animated follow-up to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

As reported by Variety, Sony Pictures Animation unveiled a slew of new shows and films coming in 2020 and beyond. During a presentation it was revealed that McGruder was collaborating with Sony Pictures Television on a reimagined version of The Boondocks. It will dive into the Freemans battle against Uncle Ruckus, who’s now an “evil local government tyrant who rules fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.” Comedian John Witherspoon, who played Granddad, hinted in a previous interview that he was working on a new The Boondocks show. No word yet about Regina King, though.

Sony executives revealed that Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose’s horror graphic novel, Hungry Ghosts, was being turned into an anthology series about chefs telling each other scary ghost stories. Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack) also shared more on the latest series he’s directing, Black Night, about a loyal knight who turns himself into a vigilante after failing to protect his king.

There was much hub-bub about Lord and Miller’s new project, The Mitchells vs. The Machines. The movie is about a vacationing family who get caught up in a tech uprising, as all the robots and tech devices simultaneously turn against humanity and stage a revolt. According to Variety, the clips viewed at the presentation show how the movie will use animation techniques from Spider-Verse in a new and different way. The article described the human portions are chaotic and done “in a painterly handmade way, not so far from French 2D animated movies.” On the other hand, the high-tech stuff will be big and highly stylized. Meaning that not only will these worlds collide thematically, but also visually. The Mitchells vs. The Machines comes out September 2020.

I love the way her and Alice look. Totally my types.

Alice's chest should definitely be on a list of all time greats somewhere. The actress who plays Margo is actually quite naturally beautiful. Her character annoys me a bit.

Oh I agree on both counts. Alice is the girlfriend all of us wanted in college super smart fun conservative style but super hot behind closed doors.

Margo is a SJW nightmare with her never ending attempt to change language. Its not hitting the mark and them making her "king" is dumb af too.

Olivia Taylor Dudley is her name and she is one stacked lady.

Who has the better chest, Alice from "The Magicians" or Clarke from "The 100"?:

Also, I just got done watching the 7th episode of "The Magicians". I thought Alice looked thick when she was making out with Quentin on the bed.

Without looking it up, I'm gonna assume "The Magicians" is shot in Vancouver because I recognize some of these sets on the show from various CW shows.

Again Canadians for the win. That girl is stacked. Either one of them would have a spot in my bed lol

I Forgot all about Sacred Lies returning for a second season. That, Sorry For Your Loss and Will Smith's Bucket List has me intrigued.

That Jessica Biel series LimeTown was out of left field. Don't she still have The Sinner on USA?

Biel did not appear in The Sinner season 2;however, she was one of the executive producers of the show.

But it's really one of the very few things positive about facebook right now. Facebook got a lot of shit with them.

Yesterday, Facebook touted solid growth of Watch, reporting a remarkable 720 million monthly active users. Now if only the company can remain out of the headlines for PR crises.
