We'll have to wait until the movie comes out to find out if it's just the posing or if the character in the movie will be enhanced somehow due to his armor.

 

I would get up early on Saturday mornings to watch this show. My Favorite Star Trek series done "animated series" style. (unfortunately not real)

 

I'm surprised that any Star Trek related animated series haven't been done since the old Saturday morning Filmation series from the 70's.

 

Badass. Looking forward to this one.

 

EXO Squad

One of those forgotten Western shows and their attempt to put a dent on the popularity of the Mecha genre from Japan. I remember watching this cartoon on a lot of occasions and it had an interesting story, but I couldn't recall much more of the story beyond what I could see in this opening. But the story is straightforward and the cast of characters are pretty much what you'd expect.

Exo Squad was ahead of it's time, don't let the over-saturated color pallette fool you.

It was one of the first American animated programs to take it's story lines seriously. The show tackled racism, slavery, the ethics of cloning, religion, the importants of family, and the nature of morality. That was a trailblazing show, that unfortunately wasn't marketed properly.

 

I was young at the time, so my appreciation for story and such didn't resonate with me well. But now since reading the synopsis, I would like to see a reboot of the series or perhaps buy the DVD and take a look at the whole thing. I use to own the toys too...hence my slight interest in watching the TV series.[

 

I remember the Filmation adaptation. The episode about Spock returning to Vulcan was interesting. Filmation was bought by Hallmark Entertainment.

 

That wouldn't work out too well, his character would change too much in my opinion. Johnny's character seems the furthest from black to me.

 

A black Johnny Storm. Well, as much as I enjoy seeing diversity, I honestly think it won't work out. Maybe, it could be written that he was adopted. But, Johnny Storm is not like Nick Fury. Perhaps they should leave The Fantastic Four alone.

 

Special Effects Legend Ray Harryhausen Dead at 92.

Ray Harryhausen, the stop-motion animation legend whose work on "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms," "Jason and the Argonauts" and other science fiction and fantasy film classics made him a cult figure who inspired later generations of filmmakers and special-effects artists, has died. He was 92.

Harryhausen died Tuesday in London, where he had lived for decades. His death was confirmed by Kenneth Kleinberg, his longtime legal representative in the United States.

In the pre-computer-generated-imagery era in which he worked, Harryhausen used the painstaking process of making slight adjustments to the position of his three-dimensional, ball-and-socket-jointed scale models and then shooting them frame-by-frame to create the illusion of movement. Footage of his exotic beasts and creatures was later often combined with live action.

In 1992, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented Harryhausen with the Gordon E. Sawyer Award for technical achievement.


As part of a Hollywood contingent that wrote letters and donated money to get Harryhausen a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003, Steven Spielberg wrote: "Without Harryhausen's effects work over the last five decades, there never would have been a 'Star Wars' or a 'Jurassic Park.' His films continue to set our imagination on fire."









A lot of great childhood memories for me growing up being entertained by his movies and one of the reasons I became a fan of sci-fi and fantasy films.

Harryhausen was a legend, R.I.P.

 

Truly a legend. He made it happen before CGI. Jason and the Argonauts? Golden Voyage of Sinbad? Valley of Gwangi? Classics. He will be missed. Thank you for giving this overgrown kid decades of movie magic. R.I.P.

 

I had just finished watching the film Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers on dvd. He made the best looking flying saucers. They cannot be compared. I had grown up watching the films that Ray Harryhausen worked on. I remember It Came From Beneath The Sea, Twenty Million Miles To Earth, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, The Sinbad movies(The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad was the best imho), The Valley Of Gwangi, The Clash Of The Titans(the Kraken was Harryhausen's favorite monster). But, my favorite was Jason And The Aargonaughts, because it had a very involving story. Thanks for being a part of my childhood, Ray. R.I.P.

 

And let us not forget Mighty Joe Young. Ray Harryhausen's first film(I think). He and actress Terry Moore(Jill from the original film) appeared in the remake with Charlize Theron and Bill Paxton. The remake was interesting and not boring. But the original had it all. It had action, suspense and humor.

 

Yeah it was officially his first movie since he was both assistant & apprentice to Willis O' Brien, the stop motion wizard responsible for King Kong who was technical creator for Mighty Joe Young. O'Brien was basically passing on the stop motion torch to Harryhausen with that movie since Harryhausen is credited with doing the majority of the stop motion animation.

 

Willis O'Brien later would work on The Black Scorpion and also worked with a group of animators on The Giant Behemoth. He advised an animator in the film The Beast Of Hollow Mountain. It was O'Brien who told Harryhausen to study anatomy when they met after Harryhausen showed O'Brien his models(the Venusian monster called the Ymir was probably the most muscular of movie monsters. It would later become the Kraken on The Clash Of The Titans). Even Harryhausen's daughter grew up with her dad's creatures(a woman looked at his daughter in her stroller and she was shocked when she saw Harryhausen's daughter with the model of Gwangi in the stroller with her).

 

First Disney/Marvel Animated Movie is…’Big Hero 6??

The official first animated film from the Disney/Marvel team will be Big Hero 6! Don’t know who (or what) that is? Most people outside of the hardcore comic crowd probably share your confusion.






Big Hero 6 are a team of heroes recruited by the Japanese government, who once fought alongside the X-Men character known as Sunfire (the comic version of the team also included X-Men/Wolverine enemy Silver Samurai, who will appear in the sequel film, The Wolverine). The team had its own run in the Marvel universe, consisting of two mini-series released in the 2000s.



Big Hero 6 is now officially on Disney's schedule for theatrical release on Nov. 7, 2014, and is the first product of what many observers were hoping to see when multimedia giant acquired Marvel in 2009: The company's revered animation division adapting Marvel's famous characters.

Directed by Don Hall, Big Hero 6 is clearly something of an unexpected choice for Disney's initial Marvel-based animated movie — a Japanese superteam that's only made a handful of comic book appearances, and started life when Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau created them as guest stars during their run on Alpha Flight in 1998. In the interim time, other creators have presented their take on the characters, and Seagle and Rouleau — along with fellow comic vets Joe Casey and Joe Kelly (collectively called Man of Action)— have found phenomenal success in the televised animation world with Ben 10, Generator Rex and Ultimate Spider-Man.

 

This sounds like a great hybrid/crossover.

 

ABC has officially confirmed that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been ordered to series by the network and has released images of Agent Coulson and the cast has also been revealed along with details on what the show is about :
