Yes he does. That's kind of both the selling point and deal breaker of the series. The selling point being just as in real life anything can happen to any of the characters and the deal breaker (for a few) is if something bad happens to characters they like or are starting to like.

It's a huge selling point for me. He's a great storyteller, and I like that the story is so unpredictable.

Before Martin came up with the whole Game of Thrones (or A Song of Ice & Fire as it's actually called) series he was/is the creative force behind another popular sci-fi/fantasy series called the Wildcard series. Here's a link to a site about the series if you think it may be something you might like to get into because it's a bit complicated to explain the series and what it's about in a post.

I got into the series back around the early 90's a few years after they first started publishing it and they stopped publishing it in the mid-late 90's due to issues with the publishing company they were with at the time, but started publishing new stories with a different publisher back in the early 2000's because of the popularly of the Game of Thrones series

    I recently read this book:

I really loved her Eat, Pray, Love book. I found it charming, witty, funny, and downright fun to read.

This book was a bit harder to get down. Whilst Eat, Pray, Love concentrated on many different subjects, this one was all about marriage.

Sure, I learned a ton about marriage and its evolution through the millenia, but it got to the point where I was starting to think, Dear God lady, get on with it!!

However, when they were finally allowed to move back to the US permanently and be together and get married, I teared up.

It wasn't as good as Eat, Pray, Love but I did enjoy it. And the one thing I've liked about the two books I've read by her (I'm not sure if this holds true for her other books), she does a lot of research and you learn something about different cultures, etc.

    I'm now reading:

This book is right up my alley. LOL. It's a pretty fast read and I'm enjoying the main characters. :smt023

The writer sucks and the story is weak, but the topic itself could be interesting if someone with writing skills and an imagination did something with it.

Now I have to wait for the next one (The Winds of Winter) to be written and released, which most likely won't be anytime soon.

Is A Dance With Dragons now out in paperback or did you do audio book? It's been awhile since I hit up the local bookstore so if it's now out in paperback I may do a bookstore run over the weekend.

I don't know if the paperback out yet. I went by the library to see if they had it (I decided I didn't want to wait if I didn't have to), and surprisingly they did. I didn't get the audio book; I just posted the first pic I came across.

Outwitting The Devil - Napoleon Hill
    Intensity - Dean Koontz
    The Wedding - Nicholas Sparks

I like to mix the genres/authors each time I start a new book so things don't get stagnant!

I just finished re-reading 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King.

I have to say, I thought I remembered loving it, but after reading it again after so many years, the book sucked.

I thought maybe it was because vampires have been so romanticized in recent years, but after further thought today, I just decided that it's more the book was poorly written.

The bad guy was hardly in the book at all, and I wasn't invested in him getting killed. In fact, there wasn't much vampire action at all in the book. It wasn't scary. And no real vampire action happens until about 250 pages into the book.

It took me weeks to read and the only reason I finished it today was because I was skipping through most of the passages, because it was so boring. I'd read a few sentences here and there and then move on to the next section.

All in all, I was very disappointed. Oh and it also felt very dated. :smt009
