I suppose this is the most appropriate thread to ask this question:

Has anyone on here actually read the 50 Shades of Gray trilogy? If so, is it worth it to buy? I can't believe each book is $10. Ridiculous. I don't want to spend the money if it's not worth it, even if it's gift card money. But a friend is reading it and I'm intrigued now. I hate that. I was so anti-50 Shades. LOL.

I haven't read them, I don't know anything about them, but a girl I know can't stop raving about them on FB and I'm not sure I judge her taste all that well ;)

Are you saying $10 each is expensive, or cheap? Cos that seems crazy cheap to me!

:smt042 Same thing. A friend has said she couldn't believe she was the only one who hadn't read it. On her FB said she just went and bought it. Now tonight she is carrying on about how good it is. And it has me thinking I need to get it for my Kindle. At least with a Kiindle no one else can tell what you are reading. ;)

I think $10 each is expensive for an author whose claim to fame is writing Twilight fanfiction. LOL.

I can read free S&M stories online if I so desire (which I don't), so if I'm going to drop $30 on ebooks, I want to know if the story around the sex scenes is worth it.

All that has gone through my head since seeing the price is that I can buy an actual physical book by a known author for cheaper.

If buying the trilogy was only $15, I wouldn't have even written that post. :smt023

That's all I hear about on Facebook, too. It makes me think they aren't that great because all of the women raved about Twilight and those books are terrible. LOL.

Ahhh, ebooks. Gotcha. I wouldn't pay for that shit either hahaha. Be damn sure though, if they're in electronic format, you'll be able to download them for free ;)

I also had no idea about the books, so now that you've begun to describe them, I'm even more convinced they're not worth it!

Bookie, Amazon has a preview download. Haven't read it yet but I put it on my Kindle. Too busy this week. Perhaps there are other sources that are previewing a bit too. :)

    My last three books

I feel silly: I just saw this topic, and assumed that t'was new only to learn that it's far from that – Three years old. It's refreshing to see a literary- or humanities-oriented topic.

I just finished reading "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." Prior to that I think t'was a book, which I bought to give to my oldest niece, but wouldn't do that until I finished it: "The First Horse I See." Prior to that one was "The Mind of Frederick Douglass." It was fascinating to learn about how he developed and expanded his vocabulary.

When I finished my bachelor's degree in Communication Studies, two-years-ago, I resolved to read one book per month. I tend to reach for a remote control or my Mac more eagerly and easily that any of the five as yet unread books that I have on my shelf. I've read five books since January.

Now I want to choose a title with 200 or fewer pages. This morning I heard about "The Kissing Sailor" about the couple in the iconic D-Day photo where he spontaneously kisses a supposed nurse. That's all of 224 pages, and it's a historical detective story!

All wonderful books. I randomly choose a page from the Tao Te Ching and read it daily.

    Thank you Quinn.

After researching it at Shelfari.com, I see that it's historical fiction; I don't think I've read any of that before. If t'were simply history I'd be more enthusiastic.

I'm not a big fiction reader either, but I loved it.

Your general verdict on some of the twists and turns thus far. No spoilers of course. :D

(Yes, I've read all the books except the last book to come out, A Dance with Dragons. Waiting for the paperback release on that one.)

I've enjoyed all the twists and turns so far; the author definitely keeps you on your toes. I'm also waiting for the paperback release on the next one...it needs to hurry up.

I've only seen the first season of the show (I haven't been watching enough TV these days to be willing to spend any extra cash for HBO), and I look forward to seeing how the other books compare.
