TRUMP Thread

That he did. I have my issues with his leadership, but he held on longer and fought harder than Tom Daschle.

Well, if you have to KEEP them in, then all is not well...

Valid point, Ore. I thought however, NAFTA was more beneficial economically for Latin America..Don't we have many companies also who upped and moved shop to Mexico.

*Appreciate the Tea Party seats info earlier, also*

Yeah, Castro did it as a direct rhetorical response to exile community leaders' speeches that all of the prisoners in Cuba's jails were "freedom fighters"? He was saying in effect "Freedom fighters? Patriots? Okay, you can have these 'patriots'." He didn't steer them here, it's just that Florida is the closest destination other than Jamaica and the northwestern coast of Haiti and both countries had just agreed to travel restrictions. He knew that the convicts and mentally ill would wreak havoc in Florida, which they promptly did. They just jumped in boats and brought their "freedom struggle" to the US. Although in all fairness to Marielitos, they're not all criminals, although many were.

Fascinating. Makes me want to further look into it. In Australia, we really didn't learn much (if anything) of the political turmoil of Latin countries and the U.S, so it's engrossing information.

NAFTA was the biggest con pulled on the public until the Obama administration's TPP. It was supposed to benefit everyone, but really benefitted corporations. In each country's case, the workers of each country suffered and the corporate bottom lines benefitted.

The US lost loads of manufacturing jobs, hastening the departure that had already begun and which would soon accelerate, this time to China. Now, even Mexico loses jobs to China, because 120 million poor workers pales in comparison to 1.5 billion poor workers under a rigid dictatorship/plutocracy without independent unions or the right to organize.

Mexico lost because the short-term benefit of manufacturing jobs from the US was soon lost to China, while their agricultural sector was decimated by US gov't-supported agribusiness. Agriculture was their rural employment scheme and it was destroyed, leading to the surge in migration to the States. So now they have a defunct, uncompetitive industrial sector and an uncompetitive, pre-industrial agricultural sector - the worst of both worlds.

Canada more or less held pace, from what little I've heard about its impact on our friends to the north.

The US has as much of an interventionist history in the Caribbean and Central/South America and West Africa as France and Britain do in the rest of the world. The Cuban, Colombian, Venezuelan and Haitian situations are literally played out on the streets of South Florida.

Why would you pay over a billion dollars for a fence?

Both the USA and Mexico got more problems then spending a billion on a fence.

This is a low priority for most Americans in their everyday life.

Ok, so what's the high priorities, since illegals is a low one?

a bit relative I would imagine.

If, as a nation, we worried about death, heart disease kills more Americans than anything else. but that is boring... No one wants to hear Donald talk about how we should eat healthier.:smt012

That's self inflicted, I can manage myself far better than I can manage the criminal inclinations of others. Me managing my own health won't do much for me if we keep letting this drug war rule our lives that breed these gangs we're all so worried about.

When was the last time you ran into those gangs? Is this a daily, monthly occurrence?

I mean honestly ... I have been here for 29 years never ran into a gang.
Yes, you can manage your health and you can also manage to not meet gang members. I manage to do it.

It is that when you put this stuff into prospective

610,000 people dying from heart disease and 16,121 homicides
http://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/facts.htm
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm
Which one is killing more Americans? Heart is more than ten times the rate.
It is just unlikely that a gang member is going to kill you.

It is like the ebola. More people die from car accidents than the ebola but that was the big worry. There is a perspective when you look at stats but numbers are boring. People want to hate something that isn't them even though the stats are against them. Something they can see. The average american is more likely to die from eating poorly than being killed by gangs or illegal immigrants. yet this is what we worry about. Perspective!

Just YOU don't have to deal with it doesn't mean others don't

Just YOU don't have to deal with it doesn't mean others don't

Do you deal with it?

I don't think most people in the nation deal with it. I'm certain I am part of the majority.

I think more people have to deal with heart disease or family members with heart disease over homicides by gangs or illegal immigrants. If that isn't an important issue with so many dying from it each year, why would that other issue be as important with far less Americans dying from it?

It is just perspective.

lol..Believe it or not, Trump mentioned that. Personally, l think Mexico should pay half...after-all, why doesn't a country WANT to keep its citizens in to stay home, right?

That's part of Trump's problem: make Mexico pay for it, how? Outside of the threat of military intervention, we can't "make" another country do anything. That's the kind of thing a person says when he has absolutely no idea how anything works and not knowing anything is what Trump does best.

Despite how big of a problem anyone thinks anyone thinks illegal immigration is, it's obvious that Trump has no actual idea ideas to fix it because he has no what he's talking about.

Yeah, that Trump sure is crazy...

Judicial Watch: New Documents Show Homeland Security Released 165,900 Convicted Criminal Aliens throughout U.S. as of April 26, 2014

MARCH 23, 2015
Documents show Al Jazeera wanted to film people with “significant diseases”
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released 76 pages of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documents revealing that as of April 26, 2014, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had released 165,900 convicted criminal aliens throughout the United States, including many convicted of such violent crimes as homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. (Reports recently detailed that ICE released another 30,000 in the most recent fiscal year, which brings the grand total of known criminals released by the Obama administration to 195,900.)
The documents were released through a July 21, 2014, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:14-cv-01237)) filed by Judicial Watch after DHS failed to respond to a May 15 FOIA request seeking:
Any and all records of communications including, but not limited to, emails and memoranda, to or from personnel in the office of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (including its component offices, such as the Office of Public Affairs), from May 1 to May 15, 2014, concerning, regarding, or related to the report published by the Center for Immigrations Studies concerning the release of 36,000 criminal aliens.

The ICE documents confirm a May 2014 Center Immigration Studies (CIS) report showing that in 2013 ICE freed 36,007 convicted criminal aliens, who had nearly 88,000 convictions, including 193 homicide convictions, 426 sexual assault convictions, and 303 kidnapping convictions.
As has been previously reported, and is evidenced in these documents, the 36,007 criminal aliens freed by ICE in 2013 were just the tip of the iceberg. In a DHS “Overview of ICE” document marked “FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY,” the following figures are reported through April 26, 2014 [NOTE: “Final Order” indicates the illegal aliens were ordered to leave the country, but have not done so and remain free]:

  • Non-Detained Final Order Convicted CRIMINAL 165,950
  • Non-Detained Final Order NON CRIMINAL 706,950
  • Non-Detained Final Order TOTAL 872,900
The documents also detail the difficulty caused by local policies that interfere with federal enforcement of immigration law and provide “sanctuary” for illegal alien criminals.
An email dated May 2, 2014, highlights how such a policy in Montgomery County, Maryland, prevented immigration officials from gaining access to an illegal alien “in state custody on rape charges”:
ERO [Enforcement and Removal Operations] officers were also denied access to interview the alien at police station last Friday due to Montgomery County prohibitions against immigration enforcement.

The documents also include a May 14, 2014, email from House Homeland Security Subcommittee Counsel Valerie Baldwin to ICE Executive Associate Director Thomas Holman expressing the subcommittee’s frustration over ICE stonewalling of information concerning the criminal alien release policies:
Gentlemen, At the ICE hearing and throughout the data call on ICE’s budget request, we’ve requested data on the make-up of the non-detained ATD [Alternatives to Detention] docket, specifically as it relates to violent crimes. I’m wondering why the Washington Times and Washington Post have more information on the ATD population than the Chairman and the other members of the subcommittee. Please respond with an answer today.

Immediately following the release of the CIS report, former Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Lamar Smith (R-TX), issued a statement terming the action, “the worst prison break in American history.”
Also included in the documents is a reference in the May 12, 2014, ICE Public Affairs Office “Daily Close of Business Report” describing a request from the Al Jazeera Network to film the disease quarantine room at Miami International Airport. According to the ICE “Business Report:”
General – Miami: Request to Film at Miami International Airport, Al Jazeera Network
Bureau manager called, requested to film the quarantine room for any passenger suspected of being ill with any significant diseases. PAO [Public Affairs Officer] referred the call to CBP [Customs and Border Patrol].

The Al Jazeera Network request coincided with the first reports of the Ebola virus spreading throughout West Africa. On October 9, 2014 in a story entitled “Experts: ISIS Could Use Ebola In Bio-Terror Attack Against US,” CBS Network affiliate WNEW reported, “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria terrorists may use ‘carriers’ to spread the Ebola virus as part of a low-tech biological terror tactic, according to national security and health experts.”
“It’s appalling that we’ve had to sue in federal court to get key information about the Obama administration’s release of 165,950 convicted criminal aliens,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents show the Obama administration is lying when it says that its ‘enforcement priorities’ include deporting illegal aliens who have committed heinous crimes. And lawless localities that help protect illegal alien rapists and other criminals show that politicians at all levels put politics above the rule of law and the public safety. Where do the innocent victims of the illegal alien criminals this president’s appointees have set free go for justice?”

And yet Trump has presented no actual, workable, real world solutions to do anything about any of this. Seems pretty crazy to me. He has less than no idea what he's doing as a candidate. He's taking advantage of right-wing xenophobia and nothing else.

Yet another one of the things that we learn almost nothing about in history class. The American education system needs a massive, massive overhaul.

Haiti's role as the first black republic and the massive intellectual impact it had on the rest of the black world as the first and only successful slave rebellion cannot be underestimated. Nevertheless, the propaganda war against Haiti has been so effective that many black people treat Haitians as if they were undesirables or untouchables. There are contributing factors to the problem brought by poor and rural Haitian immigrants to be sure, it's not a one-way street, but the hostility toward them is palpable in Florida and only hinders our our understanding.

And props to Goodlove for sending this article. It was excellent, and I don't usually agree with the viewpoints expressed in Forbes, so that's saying something. :p

I find it "crazy" for govt. officials to release over 150,000 convicted criminals into our communities and the press not even address it. I'm also inclined to be more angry at said officials who release violent offenders, (and the press that covers for them) than the guy who exposes the bullshit. Whether he has perfect solutions or not.

More people are killed by heart disease than cops by far. When someone addresses police brutality we don't tell them to drop the subject and talk about heart disease instead since you're more likely to be killed by it.

Fair enough, I suppose. Still, someone running for President ought to have a platform that's more than the equivalent of fairy dust and unicorn farts.

It doesn't have to be. Not when it's demagoguery. Rile up the white working class, deflect blame for their real woes away from the corporate sector onto another group of the powerless, and there you have it: instant blind impotent rage.

You are exactly right. We do not. That's why we are at 610,000 dead americans. You are absolutely correct.

edit on a minor note:

Only now am I realizing the brilliance of the Obama administration. I looked up the leading cause of death.

for 2013:

Heart disease: 611,105
Cancer: 584,881
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 149,205
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 130,557
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,978
Alzheimer's disease: 84,767
Diabetes: 75,578
Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,979
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 47,112
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 41,149

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

If you go back several years the numbers don't really change that much.
You can see with so many American lives on the line why the administration chose to champion the cause of healthcare over anything else.

Yet here we are talking about illegal immigration and other items that don't come close to killing so many Americans.
It just shows how much this administration understood the needs of the people despite being thrashed on it. and how petty we are as individuals to talk about low priority things in most Americans lives.

Well said. But we know to quote Arch now when that issue arises.

Heart disease is self-induced, something you can instantly control, and it only takes ONE PERSON to take control and prevent/rectify it from happening,..two if you get develop it and that's you and your doctor..... Crime, not so much.

Not so much also: Unemployment, high taxes, racism, programs being cut due to budgetary constraints, healthcare, healthcare systems overburdened, an overburdened broken justice system, revolving crime doors....things we can't control unless we instruct our politicians to get a handle on them, all things not untouched ALSO by a swelling illegal population sharing our resources, but barely contributing.

.....

He may very well drop from the race. Time will tell.

BTW on the dem. side, every comment section i read seems to be full of Bernie Sanders supporters. He appears to be holding his own against Hillary.
