Those Black conservatives who want to be just "Americans" and not African-American are going to have a big surprise when someone White with a gun comes after them at night. For the young Black conservative male,Trevon Martin will be over their necks.

Good post, Soul. But its not like there's anything we could say to them. They'd just refute it.

Arch, I understand it was put in place to benefit law-abiding citizens, but FL's SYG does have broad license from what I have been reading in cases. (I have also been reading cases in Texas and NV).
My State has the Castle Doctrine which I love, because it protects us from harm while on our property (excluding domestic violence w/o Rest.Orders).

    ***

To answer your question if I was on the jury, I do understand I am duty bound to only judge by the evidence before me and not vote with my heart. I would not dishonor the honor, even if it killed my heart.
(but I am too subjective on it, so I know I would have been excused/ not seated).

I am though a bit surprised how many people are directing their rage against White people - white women in particular - while the prosecution bears no responsibility? This was a crime on a Black man, by a Brown man, but it's White women's fault?

The truth is, Florida have some wild laws... From Terry Shiavo (whose husband should have been tried for causing her brain damage, imo), to baby Caylee Anthony, to now Trayvon. I would not want to a victim there, they don't seem to get much justice the way their laws are arranged.

On blogs/comments I am reading all over....
Also, 'how pathetic BM are for laying down with WW, because WW set BM killers free., etc'...
It's nauseating, to say the least.

So in other words the same ignorant mindset that was at play when it came to negative portrayals of black people through Trayvon Martin & Rachel Jeantel are now doing the same negative crap in regards to white women.

This case has so many sad insights about Amerikkkan culture, but the saddest is this:

there are so many people out there who would rather have racial tension, a "justice" system that's capricious and dysfunctional, a dead teen, a free murderer, and who knows what kind of chaos in the future, than simply respecting the rights of people who are black.

The kinds of people who donated $75000 to zimmerman don't care if the world becomes more dangerous for their own children behind stuff like this, as long as they can humiliate "the black man".

That's why I call it a "spiritual grudge". It trumps ALL other considerations. Most of these people even call themselves "christian", yet they would turn their backs on jesus himself if they thought he sided with the kid that was stalked down and killed.

Correct. Trayvon was definitely profiled. And Jeantell was stereotyped as stupid or dumb because of her grammar.

Appreciate the opportunity to dialogue with you Arch, even if we don't agree on it.

My apologies Archangel, just getting to your thorough reply...

At your first part and last part....

Ok yes, I see why the prosecutor might have went with the "no man hits a woman' premise. Smart deduction, Archie. I totally missed it. :smt023

A very interesting first-hand insight into how you/the jury deliberated. You definitely went in with an open mind, kudos for that. I mean, the other juror commenting on her attractiveness?? Really?? SMH.

    **********
At your middle part... yes, I said from day one extremely odd all women (as yours was all men).
IDK if I'd like your idea of random jury pickings, because like you said, you do run the risk of getting people with an agenda.... however I also hate stacked juries.

You did get me thinking, though....What about a geographical percentile split of the sex and race of the defendant's peers, regardless of the crime, or the defendant's race or sex. That would seem fairer, I think.

I hate the fact that some of the anger is going to be misdirected too, especially since there are also plenty of people who are white who see this as clear injustice.

That's another sad aspect of it: the atmosphere of distrust and "on edge" it creates.

If you're a black male, you're thinking okay, this white person is going to test you, just like the lifetime of shit you've put up with, and things are obviously not getting any better if you continue to put up with it. If you're white, you're thinking "shit- it's not my fault.. why should I take any shit from anyone? That ape wasn't even caucasian" If you're hispanic you're thinking "I look like zimmerman- this guy is going to hate me".

And if you're a bully who hates black men, you're loving the whole damn deal and are doing what you can to exacerbate it.

If the so called "justice" system would work, there wouldn't be such a mess outside of the courts. That's what the "justice" system is for.

But as it stands, we can barely look each other in the eye. I live in a mixed community (mostly hispanic but everyone's here) and the distrust is palpable. I felt that people expected me to be angry - because they know this shit ain't right -and I'm disgusted by how this shit puts me on the spot. As if these fools' complexes weren't fucked up enough already

    Really?

    I quit. I just...
There's no part part that can any more. Not even just a little.
I've been doing prayers since I heard the news yesterday. I offered up extra prayers during church services this morning for his mom and his family and for healing of all those who have been humanly touched by this tragedy.
Ive looked into those baby brown eyes courtesy of the pictures that bliss has posted and I've cried till my eyes are swollen. I'm resisting the urge to tell Florida to go shove itself up its own ass.

I've fought my own battle with a racist troll on this website all morning. Because I firmly believe that what has happened here is beyond wrong.

    And for what?

So George fucking Zimmerman can get the gun that he used to kill trayvon back.

    God help us all.

    We will NEVER learn.

My heart hurts and I just can't.
We as humans are so much better than this. Our potential through growth is exponetionally vast. That's spelled wrong but I can't see it right to fix it.

    God.

    What a waste.

You know what hurts even more....?
All that his parents get back of Trayvon.... are his bullet-holed clothes, his Skittles, his Ice Tea, his cell and his cash.

Oh and the bullet pulled from his heart. Right? Unless GZ gets that back, too............

    :(
