He could have just flown off towards one of the hundreds of big empty fields that a farming town like Smallville would have. They surley would have followed him.

 

They could have but there was no guarantee that they would. Everyone is looking at this from the comic book lens of what he would normally do. He had already turned himself over to the Kryptonians for the sake of the planet thinking they would not harm or threaten the Earth. The Kryptonians did however because they could. Who's to say they won't have stayed put just to cause chaos & fear among the populace? And what about the military? Why didn't they also try to evacuate the civilians rather than come in guns and missiles blazing in a civilian populated area?

 

Hold on though, where was the super intellect I am constantly being told about. Shouldn't he have just figured it out. I mean its Mr smarter than a super computer we're talking about.

 

Again. Everyone's throwing in everything they know from the comics into the equation. No superhuman intellect involved.

And he's not smarter than a computer. He's smarter than the average earth human as far as knowledge goes due to his knowledge of advanced Kryptonian and other alien sciences & what not that he has access to.

 

He beat Brainiac on numerous occasions so I would assume he's smarter.
I can see why fans are having a problem with this new retelling.
The Batman series wasn't nearly as confusing.

 

So Neo shouldn't have been able to beat the Matrix mainframe if it's all about the computers being smarter, right? Neo damn sure wasn't smarter than the Matrix mainframe.


Nothing to be confused about with this or any other comic book movies. Like I said in the Any Good Movies thread, people are getting too caught up in the mythology of the character and bring all of that history into it rather than looking at it for what it is : a ground zero retelling of Superman. Pretty much every comic book based movie with the exception of 300 & Sin City has altered things compared to comic book canon. Hell I don't even know why comic book fans get upset with the movies changing shit when the comic books themselves have not been faithful to the characters & what they are suppose to be about over the last 20 plus years or so.

 

Bad example. Neo was had to only contend with an earth based machine not one that had the knowledge of 10000 worlds. Also Neo had a support team and the Matrix had its attention focused on millions of other running human minds where as brainiac only had superman to focus on. But I do agree with your premise about the movie people need to take it for what it was a new spin on an old story.

 

Judging from the Rotten Tomato reviews of Man of Steel, it seems like the negative responses are mainly due out of nostalgia. But the audience score is significantly higher.

And on that note, I've actually re-watched The Dark Knight Trilogy and I'm beginning to appreciate it a bit more, especially the last movie. Still, I do hold it as an overrated franchise given how much praise it contains, but I do see why people really enjoy the trilogy the way they like it.

So now...we have to wait for a Flash movie, Green Lantern reboot, Batman reboot, Wonder Woman reboot...all of which will lead up to the Justice League Movie.

Still, I think it will bring out the worst of fans in both DC and Marvel universes. But based on the track record of both companies, it's safer to say that Marvel probably has a better track record in good superhero movies. Then again, I think they've made more movies than the DC counterpart.

 

(IMO), Supes is learning in this movie. It's not the traditional Supes where he has mastered EVERYTHING. As the movie progressed he got a little stronger, faster, smarter, and near the end gaining that (major) love for human life.

 

Yeah. This is exactly what I think they are aiming for in this movie...a newcomer trying to find a place in society, all the while trying to make use of his newfound powers and utilize them with the best of their ability.

I'm curious as to how the sequel will pan out.

Sequels are more than often misses than hits...at least from my understanding since they have to build from the first movie. I think if they want to keep it consistent, it's him learning more and more about himself, so it's likely we'll see the introduction to Kryptonite.

I'd think Lex Luthor would provide the mainstay enemy, all the while we may see a secondary enemy like say...Metallo or Brainiac. But I know if this will be trilogy, then Doomsday would have to be a major force in the last movie. But...since it'll be a tie-in to the Justice League movie...we could just wait and see what happens. Hell, some crossover references of The Flash or Batman.

 

Good points. The tie-in is whats going to hurt this sequel. But,,, I much rather have a JL!! I personally think sequels are better when made with them in mind. Ex: Lord of the Rings (even though it was really one long ass movie cut into (3)).

 

As long as its done properly, it won't ruin it per se. Maybe if Man of Steel becomes a trilogy, the last movie would have a teaser that would involve the converging of superheroes.

 

Lets hope they don't fuck it up. It can easily be done. Lol. I think the JL will be how they're brought together.

 

We'll see what happens. Hell, I might audition for the role of Green Lantern. After all, a John Stewart is a more compelling character than a Hal Jordan.

 

John Stewart > Hal Jordan. Yes.

 

After the Justice League cartoon, I'm more than inclined to think a John Stewart would make a better member of the JL. But, as long as Hawkgirl is there too.
