Rapper Eve on interracial dating: ‘Black men have been doing it for years’

In high school, I wanted to date a lot of white girls I knew. But, I couldn't because my school was in a small southern town. Pretty and popular white girls didn't go out with black boys and vice versa. It was considered scandalous and it could affect families. So, I had to play along. Through no fault of my own, I didn't get along with a lot of black girls in school. A lot of them called me names and ridiculed me almost on a daily basis. And then they did this in front of my sister. I would get an earful from her every time that happened. When I graduated, I moved back up north. But, I was unlucky and had often missed opportunites. In college, I made friends, but no girlfriends. I would not care who is looking at me if I were out on a romantic date with a white, Latina, Asian, Native American, etc.

Or he'll always care what people think. Weird that a grown ass man still gives two shits but it couple be where you live because up here people don't bat an eye at two men together so a bm with a wm isn't much of a shock.

Its more like where he's from - Dothan, AL.

I have gotten past it a little bit(sometimes l still see reminders, but I am sure of my attractions). I have not found anyone to date. I am hoping when things pick up for me, I relocate to N.J.. I have no allusions. But, it seems, to me, a better place than Miami. But thanks anyway.

Can you elaborate on both bolded points?

Why do they scorn you? In their mind, what have you done wrong just by being a black men?

I don't see insecurity in black women - just the opposite, in fact. UNLESS what and how they present is over-compensation for a feeling of insecurity.

Nail on the head. You don't treat others like shit because you feel good about yourself. You treat others like shit because you feel like shit and you want to "level the playing field." Anyway, I'd like to come back to this topic when I have more time to do it justice.

A lot of good points have been made so far. I'm particularly liking the insight into how the crack epidemic (and the chaos and insecurities it fomented) worked on black women's attitudes toward black men and the race paradigm in general. Nothing happens in a vacuum. It's far from the only factor though. This stuff started at least a few generations ago...

In a nutshell

1) They believe that Black men "failed" them by not elevating them the way they perceive White men have elevated White women. They believe that White women are considered the most beautiful and most desirable and Black women ugly and least desirable not because of anything related to aesthetics, but due to White women being associated with white men, who have more power than any other race of men, and themselves being associated with Black men, who are descendants of slaves.

This mindset fails to explain where White men came from (white women give birth to them) and why no other race of women (Arabs, Native Americans, Asians, etc) treat their male counterparts the same way as Black women do theirs, even though those other races of men don't have resources on par with European descended men and some have similiar histories of being conquered by Europeans. It also fails to explain why...

2) Of the "Big 4" demographics in America (Asian, Black, Latino, White), Black men are the only group in which the men are clearly more desired than the females. Asian women are more desired than Asian men, while White women and Latinas seem to be equally desired as their male counterparts.

The damage is twofold because not only does it hurt their pride (which I can't say I blame them for that - but I do blame them for the way they behave about it), but it also limits their ability to attract desirable partners, which is why a big emphasis is placed on who Black men with money date. The scorn in this case may be more of a case of subterfuge, designed to denigrate and downgrade Black men so they would look less desirable to non-Black women therefore giving themselves better access (for those who want Black men). Also it allows them to play the victim, a victim waiting for a knight (and a White male Knight mostly) in shining armor to rescue them (for those who want White men.)

Repped!

My mother, back in my high school days, often said to me, "God made you black and he made a black woman for you."
I still scoff at that notion even today. Back then, black people were collectively concerned only with black people. The black church also had a hand in it. It was about survival. It was good in a way, however, it was, imho, limiting. I was different. I was not afraid. I didn't want to function as a member of the Black Race. I wanted to function as a member of the Human Race. I came to this position not because I was ashamed or afraid of black people. That was not it at all. I wanted to live my life without imposed limitations and fear during a time of fear.

Thanks. According to a 1999 issue of INTERRACE magazine, Jersey City did not get high marks for ir dating or marriage. But towns like Andover and Roselle got high marks. Atlantic City is a great place to visit, but not a great place to live according to a guy I knew who lived there. Hoboken, Patterson and Edison are slowly shaping up. Newark is doing okay(thanks to Cory Booker). Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I'm Sorry But...

except for all the white dudes she's been screwing lately, Eve has become irrelevant along with her album that won't sell when it comes out. Next...
