In high school, I wanted to date a lot of white girls I knew. But, I couldn't because my school was in a small southern town. Pretty and popular white girls didn't go out with black boys and vice versa. It was considered scandalous and it could affect families. So, I had to play along. Through no fault of my own, I didn't get along with a lot of black girls in school. A lot of them called me names and ridiculed me almost on a daily basis. And then they did this in front of my sister. I would get an earful from her every time that happened. When I graduated, I moved back up north. But, I was unlucky and had often missed opportunites. In college, I made friends, but no girlfriends. I would not care who is looking at me if I were out on a romantic date with a white, Latina, Asian, Native American, etc.

I have gotten past it a little bit(sometimes l still see reminders, but I am sure of my attractions). I have not found anyone to date. I am hoping when things pick up for me, I relocate to N.J.. I have no allusions. But, it seems, to me, a better place than Miami. But thanks anyway.

Nail on the head. You don't treat others like shit because you feel good about yourself. You treat others like shit because you feel like shit and you want to "level the playing field." Anyway, I'd like to come back to this topic when I have more time to do it justice.

A lot of good points have been made so far. I'm particularly liking the insight into how the crack epidemic (and the chaos and insecurities it fomented) worked on black women's attitudes toward black men and the race paradigm in general. Nothing happens in a vacuum. It's far from the only factor though. This stuff started at least a few generations ago...

My mother, back in my high school days, often said to me, "God made you black and he made a black woman for you."
I still scoff at that notion even today. Back then, black people were collectively concerned only with black people. The black church also had a hand in it. It was about survival. It was good in a way, however, it was, imho, limiting. I was different. I was not afraid. I didn't want to function as a member of the Black Race. I wanted to function as a member of the Human Race. I came to this position not because I was ashamed or afraid of black people. That was not it at all. I wanted to live my life without imposed limitations and fear during a time of fear.

Thanks. According to a 1999 issue of INTERRACE magazine, Jersey City did not get high marks for ir dating or marriage. But towns like Andover and Roselle got high marks. Atlantic City is a great place to visit, but not a great place to live according to a guy I knew who lived there. Hoboken, Patterson and Edison are slowly shaping up. Newark is doing okay(thanks to Cory Booker). Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

The rap industry is primarily a young person's game.
