Random Conversation 2.0

OK i am too lazy to read through allthe drama but all i gotta say is unless you are in the shoes of someone you cannot dismiss their concerns with a wave of the hand. Black men have issues and White women too have issues, the problem crops up when people start equating issues when they shouldnt. If an issue concerning black men crop up, do NOT bring up issues concerning a white women in that thread cus it would seem like you are trying to equate and in the same vein if women are having issues Black men should NOT dismiss it by saying blacks got it worse.

I see what you are saying, but it is the random conversation thread. Not the omg-I-have-it-so-bad-that-you-can't-even-imagine-so-don't-dare-post-here thread. As far as I've seen, there's been no equating during the discussion, just a healthy conversation.

Excellent post...I completely agree! I have been called a racist among other things ...to stay in the good graces of the men all you have to do is take your clothes off...as long as you are posting in the lingerie thread the dudes will love you...I must agree with Bliss that you bring much more to the table intellectually...don't sensor yourself just to please others...
No you don't, I'm not excited by that.

All good points but there is no need to prosecute anyone for not toeing an ironclad line on matters of race. None of us are a perfect ideal of what anyone would like us to be.
Agreed.

people seriously shouldn't be so concerned with the lack of respect shown online. This isn't preschool, why are we so worried about handholding each other? I'm a grown ass woman, people have come at me wrong a thousand times on here...who the fuck cares?
If police forces and/or people found a way to cause the internet to become "militarized" (which really is possible), you would have to change your opinion. We are already a police state (same thing with Canada, England, Hong Kong, etc.), what do you propose we do if the Internet goes the same direction?

We all have our own journeys...

But unfortunately, having a vagina makes you a target all over the world, including here as well.
I would like to be supportive of the video's message but I can't and it doesn't mean that I don't like women. In some ways this video makes things worse for them and not better. I didn't mention this in Goodlove's thread, but one of the biggest problems of this video is that it creates a perception amongst the men (and perhaps some women also) that any woman of any race is no better than the stereotypes unfairly given to some black women, that they are loud, argumentative, aggressive, in-your-face, narcissistic, mental illness, etc. We have had battles about this in the past already. Also, they already have the hardest time trying to navigate through the dating market, and if the mass media were to make this representative of all races of women, then you would be living in a society where 75% of the population doesn't want to get into a relationship while the other 25% manages to do so.
I love love LOVE the message you're giving BUT I HATE the video you decided to make... it's very exploitative and is teaching those girls that cussing is okay for to do. Maybe when they're older, yes... but now it just isn't okay.

I'm not the type to worry about your what-ifs Mikey. Sorry Charlie.

You've missed the whole point of the video.

a. Truth be told, this site is often not a female-friendly place. Typically, it's the women's contributions and experiences that are trivialized by certain male members who seem to hold being female and white against us for some reason.

b. What it should be about is RESPECT for one another as PEOPLE. We ALL have something of value to contribute to this site, and every member should be able to share without having their experiences mocked or dismissed. Pain and struggle are part of the HUMAN experience, and none of us has any right to dismiss another's pain just because it's source is different than our own. Truth is, without walking in others' shoes, you don't know what they've been through or the effect it's had on them. Love, compassion, and respect for one another as HUMAN BEINGS should be priority. The jacked up divisive and derisive mentality needs to go, because it brings nothing worth having to this site or to life experience itself.

a. It is warranted to say that the Internet and some areas of real society (such as the workplace) are not a female-friendly environment either. If you're aware of GamerGate, you would see it and other examples include commentary on blogs, female CNN hosts complaining about discrimination directed towards them, Don Lemon's reaction to a police officer's rant about women in late-August, etc, Don Imus talking about black women being nappy headed, etc.

b. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub..._2014/54_think_u_s_society_is_fair_and_decent

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 54% of Likely U.S. Voters think American society is generally fair and decent. This finding is down four points from July and is the lowest finding since July 2007. Prior to 2013, belief that American society was fair and decent regularly ran in the low-to-mid 60s. Thirty-three percent (33%) say American society is generally unfair and discriminatory, up slightly from last month. Thirteen percent (13%) are not sure.
You've missed the whole point of the video.
I missed the point of the video on purpose just to make that post. I find it unlikely that the video will foster any social change.

Now I could design the same kind of argument that I did about feminism and make it about who the spokesperson is for issues pertaining to blacks and other minority groups. Our leaders are Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Barack Obama and Eric Holder. Things have not really gotten better with them being the spokespeople for us. The best we have is if Dr. King was still alive today and he's not. A white guy got very angry and shot him.

No one is dismissing what BM deal with or expecting anyone else to make light of BM's experiences for the sake of "supporting WW". The majority of the women on this site have the utmost love, respect, and appreciation for BM and what they deal with, and for anyone to suggest otherwise is silly.

Truth be told, this site is often not a female-friendly place. Typically, it's the women's contributions and experiences that are trivialized by certain male members who seem to hold being female and white against us for some reason. We have more to offer than tits, ass, and ego-stroking, yet those things are typically what get the most positive male responses around here. And, at other times, it seems like some of the men either forget or just don't care that this site is meant for us too; sometimes it's like some forget we're even here.

It should NOT be some contest about who has it worse or some 'us vs. them' gender and/or race competition. Damn, wish I could rep you for this. I'm going to have to come back to this post once I spread it around a bit first.

Well said but isnt there something to be said when certain things are presented. I consider myself a progressive and just want plain equality for all fuck race and gender just treat me like a person.
And lets also be fair the shit with the men comes up more because like I said before people like us are getting executed weekly so its bound to come with certain emotions. Trust me I don't like to get on a soapbox and constantly talk about this stuff but they are killing us. Its fucking exhausting to constantly think about this shit to have to peotest for my human rights. So when the discussion is focused on that and someone derails the conversation it feels like yet another person trivializing our pain. It may not be the intention but it is the feeling. I'd rep you but I'm all out. Good post Tam

This is what I get neg repped for lol. Nothing offensive or mean. I wish these big babies would sign them so we can just ignore each other.

And if any of that happens no one will call you a thug who deserved it.
I'm not saying women are without their struggles but don't you see the distinct differences. Rape is frowned upon, hitting women is frowned upon. Athena they are fucking executing us in the damn streets and people are not only cheering but raising defense funds. Its being carried out by the state and cheered on by the citizens

No, they don't call us thugs, they just call us sluts and try to slut-shame us if we report a rape.

No, we aren't called thugs. But we are humiliated in other ways when we report a rape and it goes to trial. "Well, maybe you shouldn't have worn that short skirt" or "maybe if you didn't show cleavage or wear those high heels this wouldn't have happened to you" or "no really means yes" or "maybe you shouldn't have had those drinks and left the bar with a strange guy"....etc etc etc.

A helluva lot more rapes happen around the world than are being reported for these very reasons.

Can we just appreciate and support each others' struggles and NOT try to "one up" our struggle over someone else's?

Always a voice of reason....thank you.

Yet you did just that smh. Show me a how website where they are raising funds for a rapist's defense

That is irrelevant when women in places like the Middle East would have to hide their raping, lest they'd be stoned to death for being penetrated before marriage, which is far more severe, mentally and emotionally than isolated incidents involving a police officer shooting someone here. And if they don't get killed, then their rapist can literally go scott free and she would have to fear for her life.

Yet you did just that smh. Show me a how website where they are raising funds for a rapist's defense
