“Not to live as if you had endless years ahead of you. Death overshadows you. While you’re alive and able — be good.” — Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

So, a friend of mine sent me the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy in PDF form over a year ago.

I haven't read it, because I haven't wanted to...but with the movie out, I decided to see what all the fuss is about. Good God, is it a poorly written book.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from it, that made me laugh out loud at their stupidity:

And from a very tiny, underused part of my brain – probably located at the base of my medulla oblongata where my subconscious dwells – comes the thought: he’s here to see you.

I feel the color in my cheeks rising again. I must be the color of the communist manifesto.

My heartbeat has picked up, and my medulla oblongata has neglected to fire any synapses to make me breathe.

“That’s very profligate of you,” I murmur, bewildered by the choice, though I am hun*gry.

LMAO!!! Who freaking talks this way? Or "thinks" this way? Too freaking funny.

This book is reminding me of that Friends episode where Joey writes a letter to the adoption company for Monica and Chandler and uses a Thesaurus...on every word.

Someone posted this on Pinterest, and I thought you'd get a kick out of it:

Once upon a time, a man set out on a sea voyage with many others. It got rougher and rougher, until a ferocious storm threatened to upend the ship and send it spiralling into the depths. Everyone on board was beyond terrified - except this one man who just sat passively and seemingly at ease with the situation. At last, when it became clear the storm was abating, a group approached the man and asked him: "How could you remain so calm when we were only a second away from possible death?"

The man eyed them evenly and replied: "When is it ever different in life?"
