George Lucas' Original "The Star Wars" Draft to be Comic Mini-Series.

The Jedi universe wasn’t built in a day and the construction process had some strange stages. If you thumb through the 1974 draft of the George Lucas script for The Star Wars (as it was called then) you’ll see a funhouse version of the most famous space epic that includes a warrior named Starkiller and a reptilian alien named Han Solo.
That version of Star Wars has been a relatively obscure artifact, but now it will get a spotlight of its own in a major adaptation by Dark Horse Comics that maps out a tale that’s both familiar and totally alien.
For the Oregon-based comics company, the project may be the great farewell to the Jedi mythology. Star Wars comics have been a core part of the Dark Horse’s indie publishing empire since the early 1990s. Now, after the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, Dark Horse is likely to lose the license in the months ahead.

In the latest issue of Geek magazine, there is a school that teaches you how to fight with a lightsaber. This group is called The Golden Sabers and they are not licenced by Lucasfilms(now owned by Disney). I recalled Mark Hamill had to take up Kendo for his fight scenes in The Empire Strikes Back. This program is a little bit advanced and for true Padawans(dressing up as a Jedi Knight is important). Check it out.

 

thats what i immediately thought of when you mentioned fighting with a light saber

unfortunately around here, there is like one kendo school in the whole city/suburban area

from what i hear tho, them dudes strike like lions :shock:

 

I remember the scene in the film Black Rain where Michael Douglas is at a police Kendo dojo and is surprised how fast his Japanese counterpart can use a kendo stick. Never underestimate the strength of bamboo.

New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii(maybe). Or, go directly to Japan and learn from the best there. The uniform, stick(s) and protective gear does cost a fortune, though.

 

Around here its usually part of the aikido system as a supplementry class much like nunchucks in karate

 

we had a few in philly..then they consolidated their resources into 1

now i dont even think they exist anymore

jiu jitsu in every neighborhood, TKD on every block...

kendo...eh

 

ooooo forgot about that

the aikido places do have weapons/iaido classes not too far from where i work (which is where i usually end up training...near work anyway..makes things easier)

but i dont think they go full-tilt like vanilla kendo places with the gear

 

Aikkido is probably the most challenging martial art because of the use of weapons and other techniques that seem like advanced physics. Steven Seagall said he had his students in Japan really go at it and some of the lost teeth and recieved broken bones. I also know rocker Billy Idol is an aikkido practitioner.

 

I'm in there like swimwear.

 

Actually, it's more like a souped up Gauntlet [game series] style of play. Simplistic fighting mechanics, but slightly more in-depth.

 

I just watched this movie. I really like it a lot. Sad to see Bruce Timm stepping down after really making these DC greats compelling characters and plots.

This was originally suppose to be a Justice League series storyline and also how they were going to introduce Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet into the series. They ended up scrapping the idea & re-tooling the story into the "Justice Lords/A Better World" episodes for the series. Very good story.

I felt it was a wise decision in the end. And to be honest, I still don't see why would Wonder Woman need an invisible jet when she can already fly.

 

I remember reading a Starlog magazine interview with actress Sarah Douglas who portrayed Ursa in Superman ll. She stated that she waited a long time and she got angry. She burst into the office and asked what was going on. Richard Donner(before he had a falling out with Alexander and Ilya Salkind and was replace by Richard Lester) realized that he found his girl to play Ursa. Ursa was definitely a woman who would rather trample a man than walk around him. She was a cold-blooded killer. But, she would follow General Zod. This actress looks like Sarah Douglas with the short hair. But her outfit is not as free as Sarah's.
