my guess is that they're sticking to characters that have/are likely to get an individual movie or two out plus with film, you don't get an entire season to flesh out characters or build up really elaborate stories. I guess 5 was the magic number of characters that they could really feel out and have an individual part in a 2 hour movie.
Warner Brothers and DC Comics, as a partnership, is not quite as organized as Marvel is with Colombia or Paramount Pictures. WB cannot add Superman or Batman to the Justice League film because of their popularity and the fact that this would be a chance to showcase other superheroes. The Flash was supposed to have a movie made about him a few years back. Guillermo Del Toro or David Goyer was working on a screenplay and directing it.
The Flash and GL are detrimental to the team fam. I'm glad there's no Martian Manhunter or Aquaman. Aquaman is absolutely uninteresting and Martian Manhunter has always been a background character. Cyborg is ok but again another background character with little personality and Hawkman is another wack character with no redeemable qualities.
Selene and the vampire clan that she belonged to were noble and sophisticated. They did not seek out humans very often because they were the result of science, as were Lucien and the Lycans. And the two were at war. Michael Corvin bridged the gap becoming stronger than both the vampires and the lycans. In the last Underworld film Selene and Michael had a daughter named Eve and she has those same powers as Selene and Michael.
Warner Brothers and DC have no problem what so ever putting out animated takes on their comic properties. All they have to do is take the same approach with the live action take properties. They already had the presents of mind to introduce & showcase other heroes besides Superman & Batman to lay the groundwork for a Justice League movie way before any of Marvel's Avengers related movies ever hit the screen. For whatever reasons they failed to develop & push production on the various movies they had lined up. Once Marvel started pushing their movies out & the Avengers was a hit, they realized they'd fucked themselves by only focusing Superman & Batman and not building up the other characters. Green Lantern was a very weak attempt to start off with IMO to try to catch up.
There is no doubt that WB and DC do well with their animated adaptations. The Justice League was supposed to be released 2 years ago. Miranda Kerr(I think) was signed on to play Wonder Woman.
Green Lantern would've worked if composer James Newton Howard crafted a better score for the film. I was expecting something is score for The Devil's Advocate or Atlantis , The Lost Continent. Instead, he had to go with Ramin Djawadi's Iron Man music. It worked visually. I liked The Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. Mark Strong as Sinestro was pretty good. Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan could've been better(Jordan should've been older). But, they needed the father and son subplot to give Hal a purpose.
i did like him in that role seemed perfect for it tbh Sinestro is such a badass, it would be hard to not like the character
So you think the music composing is what hurt that movie? You had no problems with that piss poor script that was all over the place trying too put to much focus on too many elements rather than focus on & build up Hal Jordan as a character to sell the franchise? Parallax or whatever & Hector Hammond as the initial villains was a poor choice. And being that they tried to establish Parallax as a world level threat that not even seasoned members of the Green Lantern Corps could defeat on their own never mind together but rookie Hal Jordan figures out how to defeat this centuries out threat?? Really??
:smt043 god it's a movie based on comics once you start pickin it apart like that ur going to lose the fun didn't we have this discussion eons ago i mean come on dude...fucking aliens giving humans rings and lanterns and shit....how much plausibility were u expecting u better not pick on rocket raccoon like this when he saves the galaxy
Dude I'm not arguing against the fantasy elements or the plausibility. That script was weak and had holes in it like a muthafukka. Period.
just because I only watched the film once (and haven't watched it since) doesn't mean it was weak right?
Yeah, Green Lantern was terrible on multiple levels. If they go through with the Justice League movie, it's best if they ignore the GL movie all together.
James Newton Howard's score was just the beginning. The script was flat and the only thing that puzzled me was why Hal reveal his suit and powers to his friend? The animated film Green Lantern:First Flight did Hal Jordan's origin a lot better.
If they were going to do a Green lantern origin story all they had to do was borrow from the two Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn mini-series that told an update & modified origin of Hal Jordan becoming Green Lantern as well as his being trained by Sinestro prior to his going rogue.
