Watched one episode and concluded that the cheesiness reflected the animation.

 

Hell, even before then, they killed off a black character named Everret Thomas, aka Synch. He could duplicate the powers of nearby mutants. He could duplicate more than one power set. He had the potential to be really powerful. His creator specifically wanted to introduced a hero who was not an angry black male. He was a well-adjusted character just doing the right thing without any drama. He was hinted as being an ancestor to Bishop.

I was hoping that when the Black Panther found Storm's American family, we would have seen at least one mutant. You would think a character as powerful as Storm would have similarly powerful relatives. It would have been cool to introduce a black American cousin for Storm. Storm also has an evil African warlord uncle, so they could have introduced an African cousin as well. Some of the more powerful mutants have large families like Cyclops, Colossus, Magneto, Cannanball, Mystique, etc.

It is strange how that book draws such inspiration from the black experience, yet stead-fast in not including more black characters. Charles Xavier is partly based on MLK.

 

This is why more black comic fans than the few already in the industry should be doing what the white comic fans have done: get into writing & drawing comics so that you can write already existing black characters the way they should be written and introduce some new & interesting non stereotyped ones.

 

Anyone ever read the excellent (but now discontinued) Image Comics' series Murderland? Not only a strong black character, but also in an IR with a white female assassin. Great writing.

 

Never heard of it so I looked it up out of curiousity. It was just a four issue mini-series and looks to have gotten a lukewarm reception for the most part it seems. From your description I was expecting the lead character to be the black male but it turns out its the white female.

 

I will never like that look, his outfit looks like it was painted on, and the lack of his trademark red briefs, draws too much attention to his crotch.

I don't think we will ever be seeing the classic look for Superman on the big screen again. One of the reasons both in the new movie & the new comic reboots for the redesign look was due to legal issues over the rights to the character of Superman between DC/Warner Brothers & the estates of Jerry Sigel & Joseph Shuster the two men who created Superman. In order to continue putting out Superman related material DC/Warner Brothers gave over the rights to the classic image of Superman to the Sigel & Shuster estates, so any future usage of the classic image of Superman in any way by DC/Warner Brothers would have to be approved by them.

I got to give credit to the people who made this. I love the secret operations. the lack of concentration on the big shot heroes that you really want to see. The convert is exactly what I expect from any batman apperance. This week's episode I would have never thought of going under cover as what happened in that episode. It just shows the dark side of the league and batman. The only complaint I had was Hugo and Amanda who are known villains to be in charge of a prison. I'd say that is like leaving the prisoners in charge of the asylum but they aren't in one. lol They are in charge of a prison.

 

As with the case with Lex Luthor, the general public is not aware of the criminal activities of these two characters in this version. Waller being a hardnose no nonsense bureaucrat first and foremost as the warden makes sense. She views both superheroes & villains as threats which is why she herself is viewd as an anti-hero/villain type. Since Hugo Strange is in the upcoming Arkham City game it can be assumed he'll be treated in much the same way as in this show, his criminal activites are not known. Not yet.

 

This series takes place in a Newish DC universe were a lot of Villains haven't revealed themselves yet, and that's why Hugo isn't a known threat yet. As for Amanda Waller, she isn't really a villain, she always has the best interest of normal people in mind. She just has a brutally pragmatic way of going about it.

 

meh, That's sort of looking at it from her perspective. I don't know enough about her outside of wikipedia and justice league. I understand about hugo though.

 

The problem with this is the viewer is not aware of the Justice League knowing if Waller has covert operations. We are aware that the league knows of lex(got to admit that episode was too predictable). I liked this look of lex though.

Hugo is just a different story. I would think that if lex's criminal activities is known so would hugo since hugo is one of Batman's older villians. The only true thing I could think of is that Waller got Hugo in there illegally. This way no one would know.
In any case, this was a very good episode. The other thing I don't like is the romance between the aliens. I want to keep it straight forward. no mushy stuff. I also have yet to see Artemis and kid flash but I may have simply missed those episodes in this season.

 

Viewers who don't read comics don't necessarily need to be familiar with anything that has taken place in the comics because as Thump said in his post this animated series, as with all other animated series based on comics in general, are their own little "universe". They may use characters & situations that have occured in the comics but they don't have to and most times don't, resolve them exactly how they played out in comics. Basically the same holds true with the movie versions as well.

Its funny to hear how exited the game maker is during the commentary.
I like the idea that a game maker is just as geeked for the game as the players.
