that's some bullshit fam you need to stop reppin them jawns and give the homies dap http://hater site.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/fab-ryan-leslie-dap.jpg?w=600
Stereotypes derive from misinterepted statistical or anectodotal data ie prisons are mostly made up of blacks giving the impression that since prison has mostly blacks most blacks committ crimes when less than five percent of the population are convicted felons. Stereotypes also ignore mitigating circumstances like bm being twice as likely to be unemployed which leads to a life of crime. Stereotypes bs for the most part. A lazy man's too to define a group of people.
If you are going to site misinterpreted statistical or anecdotal data then you are going to have to site a valid example. What you are asking for is an in depth explanation and that is not what comes from statistical data, or generalized comments. statement: Black makes up the majority of prison population fact or stereotype Black men are twice as likely to be unemployed when compared to their white counterpart. fact or stereotype: More than 70% of black women are over weight fact or stereotype: RACE in and of itself is not the determining factor on whether or a not something is a stereotype.
The stereotype wouldn't be the jails are mostly filled with black men the stereotype is most black men go to jail based on the statistic. See my point? There are false truths being created non correlative facts.
lippy has never know a black man to not want to at least play in the wave pool...splash around in a pool...hangout in a hot tub...swimming laps is one thing...playing water volleyball...you can even wear a floatation device when you raft or snorkel...water skiing might be intimidating when you go down in the middle of the lake...i'm going with myth
NO, I don't see your point.... ...but in the statement there was nothing about "reasons" it was just a statemented. No I do agree with your last sentence.
And there in lies my point. Stereotypes aren't based on fact its taking one statistic like jails are mostly filled with blacks and unfairly applying to the entire black race siting it as a result of race and not conditions. Stereotypes aren't concerned about reasons they are always unfairly biased.
True. Major League Baseball has studied the issue of why Black Males stopped playing baseball in large numbers and came to several reasons among those was accessibility. Father involvement however may be the strongest determining factor. Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr. are obvious examples of sons watching and learning from their fathers. If I had children I would spend the bulk of my time teaching them all that I cherish.
Yeah like sports like hockey are hella expensive basketball only requires a 20 dollar ball and some sneakers
Correct. Hockey takes community investment in an ice rink, skill training, equipment, organized teams, etc. You can learn basketball by yourself, shoot by yourself, dribble, dunk, do layups etc. Learning to excel at anything takes time and the higher the cost, the more difficult. To swim competitively you need some questions answered; Can you swim indoors all year long? and receive the needed coaching (from someone that believes in you?), and family support? and more...
I second what you're saying about dads. A lot of the greats of today and yesteryear had their fathers showing them the ropes. My son and I play tennis, soccer and basketball together whenever we have the chance. The former because it's our family sport, the latter two because they are my two favorite team sports to watch, and they're something he can later play with his buddies. I first put him in the water at 6 months, and he loves his bicycle. Since I'm a tri-enthusiast, I will have him distance running once he hits 12-13, LOL.
Nope, I just train in all three. Done some races and a lot of long-distance group rides, and swimming is mostly me doing laps or playing with my son. Giving some serious thought to it though.
It sometimes makes me disappointed that these young brothas out here aren’t into baseball like we were back in the day. I can only wish that in the coming years more urban areas will have more access to more athletic opportunities other than just football and basketball. Baseball is really a great game, and a lotta people don’t even realize that we used to dominate in it. I wanna see another Willie Mays & Bob Gibson before I die.
