I'm almost as comfortable out of the water as I am in it. Scuba, Snorkel, Sex, Surf, Swimming. I do all that shit.... Funny how everything in the water seems to begin with an 'S'.

I'll admit that's probably part of it since it's sink or swim time when you're 8 in my family but my also signed us up at the community center near my house and all the kids learning were black too so....

More don't than do..................so I'm still right, and you are still thinking small while I compare large.

When I worked in the Bahamas, I saw plenty of black people in the water. I know plenty of Jamaicans surf.

Maybe it's just another narrow-minded black American thing.

Ymra that's ridiculous. Even if there are more who don't than do that can be applied across the board. In the areas where these black kids can't swim I assume the white ones can't swim either so would you say white people don't swim?
I understand the concept of generally speaking but that's over generalizing.

Agree 100%. Even in urban areas (Philly is one), when the community pools open for summer, you can barely see the water, there are so many black people in it swimming.

At the local Y, there's a pool. With pool lane dividers. Many times, (and often I'm the only white patron there) I have to wait for a lane to swim, because it's packed.

My ex boyfriend had asked me to teach him, but only because he had never learned. But my ex-hubby could swim, np.

 Why...do you think I'm lying? In North Philly when they show the community pools on the news announcing the openings all you see it the pool being used fully and it's all Black people swimming, enjoying it.
So the myth/notion that it's because of "urban areas" that Black don't/can't swim is false. In my experiences, wherever there is a pool or the ocean, Black people flock to it as much as Whites. I truly hate the stereotype.

I find at our pool if it's so full you can't see the water...........people are standing in it cooling off and not "swimming". Around here only the lap pools are used by the swimmers.
