In regards to the rain in Australia saw some clips of it on Euronews, a small town was like a river through the main street in one of the clips I saw.

Looked like the kind of rains you see during monsoon season in Bangladesh.

As I type this we are getting 8-14 inches of snow coming down in NYC.
