Just started a new read:

Moment of Truth in Iraq, Michael Yon.

and purchased at the request of Mrs Nose the Robert Jordan series in paperback.

 

Reading Public Enemies by Bryan Burrough.

I'm reading "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr. I'm about 1/2 way through. It's a very good book so far. It's very well written and has excellent character development. The story is interesting. It speaks to my interest in psychology and history. It's interesting to read a story like this, set in 1896, before the advent of finger printing and other criminology tools we take for granted today.

I tried to read "The Bone Vault" by Linda Fairstein. Horrible book. The subject matter interested me (thanks to my anthropological background), which is why I picked it up. I'm happy it's only the paperback. I read about 100 pages and realized that I didn't know any of the characters. She didn't bother giving any history or depth to the characters and 100 pages in, I couldn't distinguish one character from another. There were also way too many characters introduced. The premise sounded really interesting, but the execution is very poor.

As I devote *heaps* of time to being behind an animation light desk and/or a still and/or motion picture camera...I have little time to sit and read....as I did when I lived & worked in Cleveland (Guess WHY? In a swingin' hip 24/7 city like *that!* [That's sarcasm])..so there are some personal favourites that I've been perusing once over lightly:

"Not By The Sword" - Kathryn Watterson

"Brain Droppings" - George Carlin (The bloke left us all too soon, eh?)

"Future Shock" - Alvin Toffler (The latter here not so much "new', as a re-read of some finer topics that, albeit this book came out in 1974, has topics that are *very* much in the news as I write this! And *all* of my childhood chums back in Chi-town luaghed at and mocked my observations on those topics back then. Wonder if the surviving ones are laughing now???)

I really enjoyed "The Alienist." Now that you've reminded me of it, I may have to pick it up again.

Recently, I've been trying to read "The Lost Symbol" (Dan Brown) but haven't gotten very far. Thought it would be entertaining but I'm not finding it as enjoyable as I thought I would.

 

Oh, awesome, I don't know anyone who has read that book. Glad to know there are others who have liked it. I'm enjoying it so far.

"The Lost Symbol" is next on my list! Though now I guess I'll lower my expecations of that book. Hmmm...

 

Just finished "In Fed we trust" (David Wessel) very good read for those looking for insights in to how the fed works, the power they have over our economy, and the last couple of years of fiscal and monetary policies.

 

The Metamorphoses by Ovid is what I'm reading now. Previously I've just been re-reading the Harry Potter books yet again. >.< I can't afford to buy new ones, and I always forget to return library books.


But! My friend from back home is sending me World War Z by Max Brooks. I'm super excited! I had his other one, The Zombie Survival Guide, before, and WWZ is supposed to be ten times better.
