There is a lot of naivete and ignorance on display in this thread. In Latin America, the "one drop rule" functions differently than it does here. People of mixed race, while of lower social status to whites, are generally considered to be separate and superior to people of pure African descent. I recall an incident a few years back when I was in New York where an acquaintance of mine was almost attacked by a group of dark skinned Dominican youth who became enraged because he had the temerity to refer to them as black. I've noticed a trend among people from Latin America who take great pride in their Spanish or Indigenous American heritage while doing their best to eschew any link to African ancestry.
I'd also like to say that I agree with poster who said these threads reek of desperation. Frankly, I think that it's unsettling to say the least to see that so many of the men here get so excited about any man with so much as a suntan being linked to an attractive white women. I won't even mention the apparent obsession with porn stars as well. I have a suspicion that very few of the men here have had any real world success with pursuing IR relationships.

It's like some of these dudes live vicariously, through these celeb brothers/other black men ....
I bet if Brad Pitt were to take an Ancestry test, and it revealed that he was 2% African, these lames would jump up and down with joy shouting "Angelina Jolie is down with the swirl!!!!"
Hahahahahaha.
Christ I'm glad I wasn't born in the South.
Wait. This response doesn't make sense.
In the USA the vast majority of folks who are at least "half black" will automatically get put into the black category. A 25% person? Maybe not. But a 50%? That's almost a lock. Yes, there have been recently more questioning of this by white folk who, perhaps in fear of their shrinking numbers, are now wondering why a child from a black parent and a white parent is often considered "black". Tough luck to them since for like 200 years in this country their ancestors, great grandparents, grandparents and parents clearly put such people in the black box. Those old habits are hard to break. A guy like Obama would have been labeled black in almost every part of America so I don't see where you're coming from. Its not as if he could "pass" like that dude from Prison Break.
And the one-drop rule meant, sir, one was automatically considered black even with the smallest fraction of black/African ancestry. So maybe you worded that part wrong because CLEARLY ARod and Obama would qualify.
In Latin America he is not necessarily black because in latin America they are not as quick to use racial dscriptions like that. In latin America ARod would first be identified as Dominican.
The "culturally black" argument we can agree on. But let me point out that "black" is most often used to refer to African Americans or the black diaspora living in western nations. In Africa the term "black" is not used as much as it in the USA (relatively speaking). And nor should it be. It would be mostly unnecessary anyway. There are people in Sub Sahara Africa who view themselves as African but view black people in America as "black" and that too has more to do with cultural differences. The "black" definition/description/category isn't perfect but neither is "white".
If you don't stop peddlin' around this latino like he's black.....

Well we are.I'm glad you weren't either because we all know that blacks on the west coast and up north are soooo much more "aware."
Okay now we really are getting ignorant with this thread! First we are dissecting degrees & percentages of who & what is black either to include or exclude people depending on whether they have declared their blackness:smt066 or not or better yet, on whether we like them or not. And now we're attacking people's intelligence according to what part of the country they live in. We all are continuing to prove why "our folks" (since we can't seem to agree on who the FUCK they or we are) still have a long dayum way to go.:smt011
Good for A-Rod. Kate is a catch.
