Just messing about...I thought it was a funny idea too. My internet flirtation with you whiles away a boring day.

 

I still don't understand what 'acting black' or 'acting white' is. No one has explained it yet. If people know that stereotypes are what they are, then what is acting and NOT acting?

 

no one knows because it doesnt exist. one is either black, white, other race or a mixture of races.

acting is based on behavior, and that behavior is not the same with all individuals of a same color. thus acting white or black is only acting stereotypically black or white--what people "think" is black or white.

we dont breathe black air or white air, just air. I act like me, not black nor white

I thought I already clarified this. Now keep in mind, "acting" black or "acting" white doesnt imply that when I make these descriptions that all black people act this way or all white people act this way. But we all are not dumb. We all know what is perceived as acting "black" and acting "white".

Acting black or acting ghetto is: talking hip hop slang, listening to rap music, wearing clothes that are too baggy, smoking weed, etc. Now again, I AM BLACK and I do not act this way and I know not all black people act this way. But this is how ignorant people in society see black people and this is how "wiggers" think black people act (since like I said they arent "real" ghetto white people who grew up around blacks and really know the culture, they are sheltered suburban white kids who only know about black culture what they see on TV and imitate it).

Acting white is: Acting corny, proper, educated, classy, can't dance, very moral, speaking correctly, dressing cleanly and neatly, listening to rock or pop or country music, etc. We have all seen movies with that REALLY white acting white guy who has no rhythm and is preppy dressed and what not. I mean come on people it is common sense. And like I said it is silly to get defensive because we all know that these stereotypes are not true but there ARE people out there who DO live out these stereotypes (we HAVE seen ghetto black people, and we HAVE seen really white proper people.) So the point is, when we see a proper black person or a ghetto acting white person, it seems as if the white person is "acting" black and the black person is "acting" white....even though we SHOULD know all people do not act the same and some people possess a little of ALL these traits.

 

Well, yes, otherwise stereotypes wouldn't exist. But you can destroy most stereotypes fairly easily, it takes a simple mind to believe that they are the reality.

We're all 'acting' a little everyday anyway...oooh, that's deep. :lol:

No, I just meant that it's not acceptable to let everyone know about your inner self, so we all put on a bit of a pantomime daily, hiding our inner feelings and being slightly dishonest about a lot of things in social situations.

Thats what I mean tucker. You cant define acting white or black just by saying acting white or black. You cant identify with a color. Acting white doesnt have a meaning until you attach a certain tangible idea to it. So when someone says acting white...it MEANS acting corny and redneck. When someone says acting black it MEANS acting ghetto. You could make the argument that preppie means rich and ghetto means poor. Its all stereotypes. But in our minds we tend to associate certain types of acting with certain races of people. You dont have to believe in it or agree with it, but you have to at least accept that it is a part of our lives.
