All of you are right to some degree....(yes I know this sounds defeatist):

SOME BM prefer WW because they just do and have no particularly deep set reasoning for doing so....much the way someone might prefer luxury sedans over a high powered sports car.

SOME BM hold no ill will towards WW..but for various reasons...they prefer dating/marrying BW....their preference for BW doesn't make them stronger BM nor does it make them "more black"...nor does it mean that they don't hate themselves...I've seen many BW-lovin' brothas that hated themselves.

SOME BM prefer WW for cultural/shared values type reasons. I've noticed that a lot of BM that are heavy churchgoers often marry a WW not because she's white but because he's looking for someone that he can find common ground with.

There's also a large group of brothas that simply find that regardless of religious persuasion, they don't share anything in common with the AVERAGE sista. That doesn't mean that there aren't any sistas out there for these brothas....but when a brotha grows up in an environment that lacks diversity...he's going to have a difficult time connecting with the majority of BW because many of them are accustomed to being around and seeing their "own kind."

The best description would be to take three people...an American BM, a WW and an African woman. Let's assume that the BM and the WW grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools. The African woman grew up in Senegal and came to the U.S. as an adult. On the outside...without doing any in-depth examination...most (probably no one in this forum but the "average Joe" might) would assume that despite some obvious differences, the BM would find more common ground with the African woman as opposed to the WW.....the assumption is that their common identity of 'blackness' trumps the shared values/culture that the BM has with the WW. We all know that despite sharing color....the WW and the BM would probably make a better fit assuming both are willing to go outside the lines.

Sharing someone's color doesn't mean you share their culture. Black Americans grow up in a wide array of environments...we don't all come from the same place, regardless of what many might believe. Some of us grow up visiting our grandmother's cottage on Martha's Vineyard....traveling to Europe & Africa during the summer and attending the finest Ivy League schools. Other's grow up "in the hood"...avoiding crack dealers and gang bangers on a simple walk to the store....going to college is only a dream unless you can run like the wind or jump through the roof. I will assume that most of us lie somewhere in the middle of these experiences.

SOME BM do indeed hate themselves. They will date/marry anything under the sun so long as it's not black. These brothas will try to date BW early on but instead of pursuing sistas that are actually a good match for them...they will chase after attractive hood-rats knowing that she will eventually sabotage the fledgling relationship. They already know from day one that they prefer WW and will blame BW for character flaws that they knew were present from the jump. These cats are brainwashed and there's nothing that can be done about it....they have an inferiority complex that doesn't endanger BW...but instead threatens unsuspecting WW who are charmed by the attention that a self-hating BM throws at them.

Notice carefully how I placed the word "SOME" in front of all of these descriptions. No two BM are alike....our motivations are known only to us. The relatively few angry sistahs that write to Ebony & JET....the ass-kissing "psychologist" brothas that write books and give interviews explaining why BM are "obsessed" with WW...and the WW that think they can nail any brotha when they want to (are you listening Lindsay Lohan)...know nothing about the BM psyche. Every BM has his own reasoning for doing what he does and no statistics or cleverly thought up theories can change that. We shouldn't assume we know why men do what they do......and if they tell you why.....give them a smile and keep on walking.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try and get ready for my friends Foam Party.....

i went to an outdoor foam party once when i was like a sophomore in college....it was kind of lame.

me and a couple friends ended up just chillin on the "side-lines" and dancing like crazy white girls. it was kinda fun. :wink:
