dead beat dads piss me off. -_-
What confuses me the most are situations like some I've personally witnessed...like a dad that doesn't really bother to have anything to do with his children while they're growing up, but then when they're adults he suddenly wants to be a part of their lives. I understand that perhaps time taught the man a lesson, and it just took a while for him to realize that he should step up and be a dad, but why wait so long? It can breed a lot of animousity in the children, to the point where they may or may not even want to see him once they've grown.
My dad was never divorced from my mom, but he seems to be following the pattern in my example (though he's not who I was referring to). He expresses vague interest in me now as an adult, but by waiting so long the relationship between us is uncomfortable at best. Though I count my own situation as unique, and not with those I mentioned in my example. In that situation the father actively seeks a relationship with his adult children, and finally shows interest in their lives like a father should.
It's just strange to me.
