I noticed today was Fats Domino's birthday today, and it put me in the mood to listen to some of my favorites of his.

These songs remind me of my childhood when my daddy would come home on the weekends after being on the road all week...he had a huge collection of 45s & 8 track tapes, and he'd play them (mostly the "oldies") while relaxing and spending family time with us.

Lyrics in Gaelic

An chéad suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Go bhfuair sí a haon mhac beo

An dara suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Go deachaidh sé a léamh na leabhar

An triú suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Gur thug uirthi bláth na n-ord

An ceathrú suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Gurbh é fhéin an Slánaitheoir

An cúigiú suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Go ndearna sé na mairbh beo

An séu suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Gur thug sé fion le hól

An seachtú suáilce fuair an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe
Ba í sin an tsuáilce mhór
Suáilce a fuair sí óna haonmhac uasal
Go dtabharfadh sé í suas ar neamh

Lyrics in English

The first joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
Who she brought forth into the world

The second joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That he went to study the holy books

The third joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That she was the flower of the holy orders

The fourth joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That he was the savior

The fifth joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That he restored the dead to life

The sixth joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That he gave his blood to drink as wine

The seventh joy that the blessed Virgin received
Was a great joy
A joy received from her one noble son
That he carried her to heaven

Reminds me of mine too at my Nan and Grandad's house, they had a pretty random collection.

Here's another one that reminds me of them.
