I grew up with country music ringing in my ears from every direction. My Pop loved the song El Paso, and I had to listen to it over and over while riding in his pickup. It took me a few years to stop laughing at it, and come to appreciate its poignancy. It's a beautiful song. I only love specially selected country songs, so I'm still at the 'laughing", lol. I did try to appreciate the twang, though :p Now I have head El Paso many times (in movies?) and like you, never caught the words.
And oh what words! Never in a million did I think THAT was the song. And the end part...wow...in the end... he got his woman.
