Everyone that says kids are expensive are correct! Buying gifts for my friends kids is making me poor this holiday season. Of all my friends only one of them, the most financially set one, is not showering his boy with expensive, meaningless junk. Instead, he took his son shopping for gifts for kids at the childrens hospital... that they will personally deliver. He still had the kid make a list for Santa and he's buying gifts within reason. This is in stark contrast to my friend who emailed me a $70 star wars toy that his son wants for Christmas. The first kid is very respectful and plays well by himself and with others, while the second is constantly being yelled at to 'sit down' 'behave' and 'go to your room' and has trouble with other kids at school and on the playground.

Now, I know all kids are different, but as an outside observer it does appear that parenting makes a world of difference.

my kids each are buying a goat for a village in africa out of their bank accounts this year. i will also say that santa gives them one present each at my house (harper drums, daisy a bike) and 1 gift for them both (still to be decided). too many toys that go unplayed with and are unappreciated. my friends and i also never give each others children presents at christmas, for the exact same reason. birthday presents have now also become a collection of money from the children attending and 1 big present is bought that the child really wants.

with other relatives we never go over board and bought expensice gifts.. we had all agree with the same amount of money we all give .. this way the kids saved some nice amount and buy something they liked .. now we stopped that as all not little anymore .. my son is the youngerst that is 16 .. n and one of my niece is few month older and the rest are over 18 now

just give now to one friend kids gifts and thats nothing big because the kids are still young ... usually i make a little baskets with some wine and few snacks for my friend and her husband (put some snacks for the kids too) and maybe include some money for the kids nothing much ..

and if i go for a visit this days to people i just get a bottle of something or sweets i never go empty handed ..

Same with the bolded on my end. Shit got out of hand with both my mom & mother-in-law during the twins toddler phase trying to out do each other with who could give the most toys. We convinced them to give clothes instead. Now that works like a charm for me & the wife. :smt036

Griffin won Heisman Trophy! I think this is a 1st for Baylor. Luck thought he had it on lock down since the beginning of the season, I guess the voters thought otherwise. I think both Luck and Griffin are Texans. Is it me or California, Texas and Florida produce the most # of football players of the country?
