It's definitely as bad as you've probably heard. 2013 was the driest year ever in California. 90% of California is experiencing extreme or severe drought conditions (the top two levels of a 5 tier recording system). The storm that rolled in yesterday and will run through Sunday is supposedly the biggest we've seen in 3 years, but it will still only yield a few inches of rain. Hopefully we'll see more precipitation before the wet months are over. The impact this is having on California farmers (and in turn the impact it will have on all of our grocery budgets) is huge. I read that not only are farmers not planting due to the lack of water, but they're having to pull plants in their prime because they're not able to sustain the growth. Pretty crazy.

Californians are used to voluntary and involuntary water conservation efforts, but it looks like even those regulations will be getting stricter.

Some conservation efforts are easier than others. I'm dedicated to doing my part to help California ;).....

Glad to see you're doing your part to help, lol. Every little bit helps.

Hope you guys continue to get more rain. Is there a danger of flash flooding and mudslides from sudden blasts of water hitting all that parched earth at once?

Shower time with my guy AND I'm helping the conservation efforts. Don't mind if I do :p

Definitely. We have flash flood warnings in effect in addition to wind advisories, high surf advisories, and a gale warning. It's supposed to rain straight for the next 24 hours. Our south facing mountains will be getting 7 inches...that's crazy. The nice part though is that its not a super cold storm. Our deserts will still be about 73 and the rest of us will hover around 65. Still freezing in my book, but I guess not so bad by most people's standards.

We certainly need the rain so I plan on enjoying it while its here!

It a 500 year drought, so yes its very bad. Farmers in the central valley will not be getting water from the state. Many of them will probably fold and price of produce will go up. A lot.
There have already been water related crimes, I.e., stealing water. I think that was in the central valley as well.

I'm looking for a new home for my neighbor's dog...

Anyone interested in an ankle biting idiot pet that NEVER shuts up?

Better to put that bitch down. Peanut Butter + anti-freeze = GOLD.

WTF? Only a fucked up person would do something like that to another living thing.

I just want some peace and quiet; I don't want to kill the noisy little thing. IMO the biggest reason he won't shut up is because my neighbors take lousy care of him. That's why I think he needs a new home.

Or...you can send the dog to Abu Dhabi? :p That thing will never shut up unless it's far far away from you.

I wouldn't mind if the new neighbors and their dogs were gone. They are so loud...sometimes worse than the dog. I miss the quiet people who lived there before. :(

Lol...I don't think that would shut him up either.

It would help if they paid more attention to him and their other dog. From the way they attack my cats' food when they are running loose in my yard, I don't think they're giving them enough to eat. It pisses me off when people have pets but don't take care of them.

Neighborhoods wind up changing demographics every few years or so. I would know this from personal experience. It's either be a "good neighbor" or simply just leave quietly nowadays and let the quality of the place go into a free fall.

There may come a day when we are no longer looking through the glass of patriarchal dominance and adherence. But, through eyes and perception, we’ll cave to ignorance, regardless. Somehow, we may eventually revel in hope and then this will only be a memory.

One day back posting on the forum and I'm reminded of how much of a time-suck it can be!

"I wonder if so-and-so has responded in such-and-such thread... I'd better check"... on repeat, all day
