I have lived in Miami for 7 years. And Ft. Lauderdale for nearly 10. My overall impression of South Florida is that it is both real and unreal and that the weather is the only thing you'll ever get for free, and orange juice is expensive. In terms of dating, it is more for teens than adults. If you are wealthy, and let everyone know it(which I would advise against), everybody wants to be your friend. People tend to recognize what a person has as opposed to whom they are. Miami is very superficial(especially at South Beach) and the city takes pride in it. Learning Spanish is very helpful because you cannot get a job with the city if you do not. If you want to meet women in Miami, please drive a new car and go to trendy places. A nice boat is a game changer, also. Whether it is a cabin cruiser, speed boat, or megayacht, that will bring a woman to you. Of course, there are those women who happen to be single mothers. They are available if you want to be a father. Her children are her life and first priority. Be aware of that. I hope to get out of here. I am originally from New Jersey. I like the change in seasons. In terms of the dating scene there, it is not as much of a challenge there as it is here in Miami.

South Florida is for people who are livin large. If a guy has no money there would be no honey period. Some places in Florida are like a enclave of another country.

The Europeans don't act like Europeans in South Florida.

I do fine in Dade. Don't give up.

Well, there are areas where more literate, artistic Europeans hang out, and then there's the Eurotrash SoBe scene. There are lots of interesting things happening in the city, especially around 54th & Biscayne, at places like Soyka and News Cafe. Many people are university-educated, into the arts and don't traffic in looks and cars nearly as much. I've found some interesting places up in Aventura as well. Just avoid the body nazi crowd, they give SoFla a bad name.

I take the 93 bus to Aventura mall. This is where you can do a lot of people watching while waiting for a bus. I have met people from Canada and the UK. I have seen many women from Germany, Israel and Brazil. A lot of them are going to South Beach to their hotels. Some women live in Aventura and get on a bus to go to South Beach(the women are usually wearing bikinis). When I am at Aventura Mall, I usually go to the Food Court and do my people watching. At the same time , I try to determine the ages of these women. Some are pretty young and built like a brick house. Some older women are like that, too and some of them are employed there. Downtown Miami is another story. I was walking through and saw a camera and light setup. The show Burn Notice was being filmed there. I walked up and down Brickell Avenue and saw a part of the city I had never seen in a long time yet it was familiar to me. I saw the living part of the city. It is hard for me to describe what it is, but I knew it. It often brought a spring to my step and I could walk for hours. I had once heard stories about South Beach police hassling black visitors. A black woman was driving a BMW and was pulled over because the officer thought it was stolen. When the woman provided the registration and other documentation, the cop asked,"Why are you driving this car?" I think South Beach is what it is; superficial.

Nah, I don't think so. I mean, I only really have to speak Spanish if I'm going salsa dancing or am buying ethnic groceries or something. But I've seen people from blue-black to chalk-white living it up there, both on the high and low ends of the economic scale. I will say one thing though: having an international/foreigner's perspective is a big help. It's multiracial there, but definitely Caribbean and European in atmosphere. I've noticed US-born whites complaining about feeling out of their element as well.

You ain't never lied. That place is as fake as a three-dollar bill. Other than people watching, I actually think it's waaaaay overrated, and generally prefer the neighborhoods to the beach scene.

Aventura Mall is great for people watching. The beaches are nice when it isn't overly crowded. I honestly like lakes and ponds as opposed to the beach.

    Ay papi!

but damn...the beach scene is probably phony wherever u go

Lol, I agree with you both. South Beach is phony, but most beaches I have scene have lots of 'beautiful people' and Body Nazis, so it's probably a universal. I avoid South Beach like the plague and rarely go more than once a month to party, if that much. I don't even consider it the real Miami. For some great insight into the neighborhoods and the difference between them and the Beach, listen to this interview with author Dave Barry

The real Miami is downtown. The beaches are on the outskirts. I really like it down. It is more real than South Beach and just as busy. Once a month on a saturday, the Miami Art Museum has a free day for folks to enter the museum. I had not set foot in a museum since the early to late 1970's. I was glad I did that day. I guess I could call it a happy accident because I went there on the eve of my 47th birthday. It was the best day I ever had.

By themselves, beaches are tranquil. But, throw in the superficiality of determined folks trying to profit from the beauty of the beach and you have an explosion of businesses and people of all stripes. The honest and the crooked. The beautiful and the ugly duckling. But when night falls and the drinks flow. All cats are grey.

This is Miami in a nutshell!!!

I lived in Miami/Hollywood for 2 years and had no problem getting women of all races.
    I've dated White,Colombian,Puerto Rican,Korean,Jamaican women there.

I had a condo on Ocean Drive my first year there.
Miami women are pretty easy you just need to show dominance and more masculinity.
Its bad enough there are so many metrosexual males running around there.
I've met some really cool women there.
I have 8 pack abs a large bank account and a couple nice convertible vehicles and a boat, none of those Miami women are aware of this when we exchange numbers so those factors are not everything.

You will also learn soon that most of those women are dead broke anyway.
A bunch of poser wannabe models who can barely afford to live on SOBE.

I also happen to meet the most decent and beautiful women in Golds Gym South Beach or LA Fitness in Hollywood.
    I don't chase club trash.
Miami Hollywood and FT Lauderdale have a ton of white, latin and black hoodrats. Alot of these women don't have a pot to piss in, but yet they are looking for a baller.

Trust me after visiting alot of European, Central and South American countries
you will have no desire to get involved with any Miami white or latin women.
The women in their native countries are better looking and alot more humble and non materialistic.
As for spanish most Miami latinas prefer to speak english so that's not a big deal when it comes to picking up women.
