That "say my name" mix. Ain't feeling that. lol. Saw that they were bringing Helen back for this. With this being a "spiritual sequel" as Jordan Peele has said, I hope they don't bring her back alive... because Helen is dead! So if they keep it that way this most definitely got my interest. And Tony Todd is supposed to be returning as Candy Man even though the voice doesn't sound like him in the trailer.
Tony Todd's depiction of Candyman ranks high on the creepy meter. I was a bit surprised to learn that the studio took liberties with the source material, Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden," and turned Candyman, a non-Black character, into a Black man who had been lynched for impregnating a White woman. That said, the original film is a horror classic that, without a doubt, could not be made today.
Yeah, that trailer failed to create any buzz. The use of "Say My Name" was also badly handled and orchestrated. Since Ccandyman is a dude at the very least you could have had a male singer on the vocals, but, hey that would be taking away from the Matriarchy I suppose. Did this woman actually do a scene in which a bathroom filled with a bunch of high school girls from all racial stripes besides black get slaughtered by the Candyman? No subtlety there. Sorry but with Harriet, Queen and Slim, The Photograph and now this, the last four months haven't been a good stretch overall for black female filmmakers, with one or two notable exceptions. Also with this, Hunters and the New Twilight Zone, I am not too high on anything produced by Jordan Peele that he doesn't direct. He would have made "Black KKKlansmen" better too if he had been behind the camera.
Some times I get the feeling he is starting to pander instead of just focus on making great art with a diverse cast.
Yeah it was wise to just make it a sequel even though I'm still trying to figure out what they mean by "spiritual sequel". lol. Clive Barker and Tony Todd made one of greatest horror films and characters of all time. Tony Todd's Candyman did more than just scare people it captured you emotionally from his words, his movements, motives, his origins... you were hooked on this murderous ghost!
He is. He is also pulling a David Oyelowo in my opinion by being overly concerned with black female representation as away of apologizing for having a white wife. That's why I don't fuck with Hunters, soon after I saw the casting I knew what was up.
Starting with not casting the blatantly-Semitic-looking Adam Driver as a so-called "white" supremacist?
Antebellum was directed and written by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (Bush+Renz). In the film, successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.
Da 5 Bloods Movie Trailer From Spike Lee comes a New Joint: the story of four Vets - Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis), and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) - who return to Vietnam, searching for the remains of their fallen Squad Leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure,
I love Russell Crowe, even though he's been looking pretty blech lately. However, this movie looks good.
