August 2-8: 50 Cent Registers As Bone Marrow Donor To Help 11-Year-Old 'Lion King' Star
Posted Fri Aug 6, 2010 10:21pm PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in That's Really

See, hip-hop mogul 50 Cent is a nice guy after all. Just don't tell his nemeses Rick Ross and Fat Joe.
The tough-guy rapper, who just premiered his new film Twelve last week, recently registered as a bone marrow donor in an effort to help a young actress diagnosed with leukemia.
When 50 Cent heard that 11-year-old Shannon Tavarez needed a bone marrow transplant, he and G-Unit member Tony Yayo registered with DKMS and were added to the Be The Match Registry.

Before she was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, Tavarez had a co-starring role as young Nala in the Broadway production of The Lion King.
Tavarez's story made 50 Cent think about his own child. "My son is just a couple years older than Shannon and I can't imagine if his life was needlessly cut short when there is someone out there that could save him," the rap star said in a statement.

"Shannon's chances of finding a matching donor are slim because she's African American and Dominican and minorities are underrepresented in the national registry," he added. "Everyone, regardless of their race or ethnicity deserves a fair chance at life. Registering to become a bone marrow donor starts with a cheek swab but it's more than that. It's a commitment to save a life."
DKMS is the largest bone-marrow donor center in the world, with more than 2 million registered donors. To sign up as a bone marrow donor visit GetSwabbed.org. Registrants have to be 18 to 55 years old and in good health.
Elsewhere in this week's news, Kanye West gave of his artistic self releasing a "moving Painting" for his song "Power." In the 90-second clip, Kanye is surrounded by Roman and Renaissance iconography that has prompted various interpretations from fans.
Eminem and Rihanna debuted the video for their controversial song "Love The Way You Lie," featuring Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as the convincingly dramatic lead actors. Wyclef Jean confirmed his bid to run for president of Haiti and was met with opposition, and Katy Perry appeared to be facing a lawsuit for her song "California Gurls.
It's a lot to take in. But we've got you covered. Next week will be even better. See you then.

I applaud him for registering but it's what he should do as a human being. So, no hero status for him but definitely think highly.

cosign that. I think everyone needs to do so. the problem with BF is that they have this thang about taking their body parts to heaven thang. That is very hypocritical to say because they are talking about going to heaven but they will not help someone else in need on something they will not be using again or really need.

Well maybe yes and maybe no. I read a case where a doctor was less willing to help someone live if they could get the organs. I think we should simply put more effort in mass producing organs. That will end all of this stem cell research and having to donate organs. We have been able to make human ears and blood vessels so we are getting closer and closer to being immortals.
