   Most likely it won't save him from execution. It's not like he's the first killer sentenced to death who was a "parent" . He probably thinks/hopes it'll get him enough sympathy that they'll decide not to put him to death.

   I think the angle is his lawyers can say the state failed to protect him from sexual abuse from one of its employees. They can say she used her position as a CO to intimidate him and essentially raped him.
