'Policy' is written into legislation by Congress and submitted to the President to either be signed into law or vetoed.

Obama isn't the King of the United States.lol
Do you expect Obama to announce a 'decree' that declares all gay marriage legal??

Anyway I think this is primarily a state issue, however if the civil rights challenge goes to the Supreme Court, denying gay people the right to marry could be against federal law.

He may have not broken any laws but he did send a message. Like JC said if he said to the affect of "I believe in the traditional sentiments of the bible where a woman is suppose to obey her husband and fulfill his needs as he sees fit. A man leads and a woman follows as was written in the words of God. I have no problem with women and they can feel free to eat and work here"

As a woman would you feel comfortable there? It reminds me of when the Tommy Hilfiger rumor about him saying his clothes weren't meant for young urban kids (aka young black kids). Even though it turned out not to be true a message like that can turn a person off. But I guess he's smart enough to know it won't effect his sales in the slightest.

I swear if he had made any remark to suggest that black folk were inferior and that the curse of Ham supports this theory, black folk would be marching on the streets holding placards and shit yet some are here saying its no big deal. If it doesnt hit home personally people dont get it which is typical human nature but commonsense should tell you not to brush it off as trivial just because it doesnt hit home.

Exactly. Chick-fil-A right or wrong is a scapegoat for the larger issue which is: equal rights.

People need to stop focusing their hate on Chick-fil-A and start organizing marches on Washington and filling their congress(wo)men's inboxes with emails demanding that they take action for the GLBT community.

THAT'S the issue, not what the owners/Chick-fil-A does with its money. The last time I checked, Chick-fil-A wasn't a Congressman.

Focus this passion on the people who can truly affect change in this country.

I just have to say my Chik Fil A is the same. We laughed about it once as it's so glaring and we were wondering where they got all the older white women. During the day they employ all white soccer moms or grandmas and at night it's all white blonde homecoming kings and queens. While right next door at Wendy's the general manager is black and 3-4 employees are Hispanic and one other is E. European (she looks Hispanic but her accent is not) I think she said once she was Armenian. So Wendy's can find a diverse crew to hire. :smt017

My experience has been (this is not scientific so don't get on your horses) if you will direct hate and discrimination or exclude, at one group unprovoked then you will easily do it to another. As bliss pointed out I can speak with my money. Yesterday I went to Wendy's. End of this story for me.

Bookie people did mobilize, march, gather and protest. Occupy ______ fill in the blank. I read an article that said that they had basically no effect on Washington or anyone.

I think businesses only respond to being hurt in the purse. People need to go on a local level and with their political votes.

It actually says wives are to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord.. Inherent in that command is the knowledge that the Lord will not abuse. People also love to quote this passage, forgetting that husbands are commanded to love their wives as Christ loved the church, even laying down His life for it. That is the epitome of unselfish love. Submission is a two-way street.

As for the topic of the thread, I support the CEO's right to express his values and the fact that his company was founded on them. He is honoring God with his business. If he had come out in support of gay marriage, I would respect his right to do that, but I wouldn't support his values with my money. 'Nuff said.

    Right.
I mean, who cares if you can't buy a soda at the local drugstore counter in 1955??? Sit in?? For what?? For the right to buy soda??

We have more 'serious' issues to be worried about.:smt043

Political activism is about more than sending letters to your congressman or marching. Many times it's about direct protest against those institutions that are violating the law/civil rights.

    This is an overstatement.
Dan Cathy calls himself a 'Christian' and owns a restaurant chain, but it's a reach to say he's giving honor to God by selling chicken sandwiches.

And plenty of men interpret the passage, 'wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord,' as meaning the husband is the ultimate authority in a marriage, not that a husband should be kind and just as we assume the Lord will be.

That's where all that honor and obey crap comes from in marriage vows.
Being in support of someone else's civil rights doesn't necessarily mean you endorse that behavior.

But if you believe being gay is a blasphemy unto God, that's really all there is to it.

I never understood people who were anti-gay based on religious beliefs think that gay people came from??
Who made them?? Why were they born that way??

If gay people are children of God, and being gay isn't a crime, their choice to marry or not is a civil right.

    Hilarious!

So Chick-Fil-A is stopping Gay marriage? Since when?

So storming Chick-Fil-A's counters LIKE GAY COUPLES PLAN TO DO TODAY BY TONGUE KISSING AT CFA COUNTERS AND BLOCKING PAYING CUSTOMERS, is going to change the law??

Do you see how stupid that is?

He honors God with his business by supporting causes that either reflect biblical principles or that stand against unbiblical ones.

As to the other points you address, read I Corinthians 11:3 and the first chapter of Romans.

Their money supported Prop. 8 and has given to organizations like The Family Research Council and others which are basically anti-gay rights lobbying group.

It's funny how hypocrisy works when it doesn't affect them at all. Hence, I would never apologize for the Jesus Fuck You picture because it's a clear reflection of the attitudes I see here on the thread: selfish and contradictory.

Funny if this is an interracial marriage situation Cathy disapproves of and speak on behalf of his franchise, then all of you would be up in arms. When one form of free speech affects you directly it's a problem, but if it's something else entirely, all based on a fictional book and character, then it's his right and the outcries are stupid.

No one outside of your own MARRIAGE is breaking down the family unit.
You leave your wife and don't raise your own kids, it isn't the 'gays' fault.

The only people gay marriage affects are the people involved in it.

Now the problems of all SOCIETY are being placed at the feet of homosexuals??
    Unreal.:-?

It's amazing how people are so indignant and insistent on thinking that they can justify their intolerance based on a belief and selfishness.

We've come a long way from the more woefully lesser educated times, but those residual elements still exists to this day, despite the plea of this country being a nation that promotes life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. The complexity of freedom of speech isn't as clear as a whistle. But, I do know that whatever you say can have intended consequences, private or public sectors.

All this and more just shows how shallow and twisted minds like that are it's time to really push another staple of equality into the forefront. It's been done with minorities and women, so it's time for other people who've been considered less than human to get their due and recognize gay rights to the tee.

Kristen, knock it off. No one bashes you for not believing in God. Stop being disrespectful to those who do believe.

I'll refrain from it until I actually see Christ-like behavior and consistency in the pursuit of equal rights and when so-called Christians actually stop demonizing a group of people because you don't feel comfortable with their sexual orientation.

But as long as I see people upholding the hypocritical oath, I won't stop until the day comes for equality to truly flourish.

P.S. How am I bashing it when I'm calling it as I see it?

P.P.S. Is it really necessary to show your rage towards me by using my real name on here? :smt017
