Unbelievable. It's like a bad dream or something. Who is he paying? Who does he know in law enforcement in the jurisdiction in which he lives? This is absolutely incredible. And I agree with Bliss, Z is going to murder that dumb broad one day and I bet she'll still find some way to forgive him or explain. SMH
http://www.livinganthropologically.com/2013/07/25/white-hispanic/ Man, fuck Geraldo. He's a racist piece of shit who supported Zimmerman and said that Martin deserved to die because he was wearing a hoodie. I also don't get the phony outrage drummed up about Zimmerman being called a "white hispanic." First off, that's how he described himself to the authorities. Secondly, unless they look like Sammy Sosa, Latinos generally get classified as "white" when "Hispanic" isn't an option. If you don't believe me, look up the booking sheets for your local police department.
Yes, she did. She kept claiming that she wasn't taking sides and was taking a "rational" view of the situation, but she was essentially defending Zimmerman and saying that anybody who was upset about the verdict had been deceived and was being riled up by Al Sharpton, Obama and the media. She was basically regurgitating the right wing spin on the case because of her political views.
If George Zimmerman stalked some poor defenseless woman in the middle of the night and got beat up by her, then shot her dead....hmmm Instead he gets beat up by a black kid for doing the same and is applauded for killing him Makes sense
Funny, he looks pretty mestizo to me. Other thank his father, I don't see much that's "white" about him.
I lived in Texas for years, and I've heard plenty of people who looked like Zimmerman refer to themselves as "white." I have a hard time believe that you've never seen the same in Florida.
I live in Texas, and I haven't encountered anyone who thinks there's anything "white" about him. I've heard people refer to him as Mexican (or slurs used for Mexican). One of my coworkers described him as "that wetback that shot that kid", and she is Mexican.
"White hispanic" is the best thing that ever happened to brown mestizos. They LOVE that classification.
No it wasn't, but since she's Mexican (or Mexican-American as she refers to herself) no one batted an eye at the comment. That and everyone was pretty much used to that kind of talk from her, so it wasn't exactly a shock.
In Florida, mestizos and people who look like Zimmerman are pejoratively referred to in the Latino community as "indios" (even by African-Latinos). Latinos that call themselves "white" around me are usually of full-blooded (or at least look so way more than Zimmerman) Spanish / French / Portuguese / European Jew / German, etc, ancestry. Reactionary white Cubans in Dade will tell someone like Zimmerman that he's not white in a New York minute. Having an indigenous mother and a white father doesn't cut it. And in Peru he wouldn't be white, either. The more dominant the fully white section of the population is, the more jealously they guard access to "whiteness". Some of the variation in terms is due to the vast variety of racial classifications depending on whether the national origin in question is part of either the black/white, brown/white, or mix-of-all-three region. Peru is generally regarded as "indio", or part of the brown/white grouping, even though there are significant black, white and Asian populations as well as indigenous. There's plenty of racism, but unless they're Americanized, most mestizos that I speak to who are clearly mixed are usually trying to claim the meaningless "Hispanic" designation. I always see that "white Hispanic" designation on the FBI's Most Wanted List at the post office as well, with these guys with features that look like Geronimo. Post-script: I thought about what you said a bit and agree to some extent, once I thought about Zimmerman's background. Thinking about him being brought up in the US, I can see him viewing himself that way, based on his father and upbringing as a judge's kid. I have encountered some biracial children of a white parent and a non-black minority parent who identify as white if no one challenges or questions the self-designation, and if they're not raised around a significant population of the other race to foster identification with them. Sort of like black Dominicans self-identifying as white if they have even a trace of white ancestry.
Sure do. One thing I'll always give you credit for is opening my eyes to the racist culture within the Hispanic community. In NY we all seem to get along so I never questioned anything but after I started reading posts on George Lopez Show after the Kardashians were guests and homeboy couldn't stop grilling them about why they liked bm that shit was clear as day. I see it with Asians and Indians too, that climb up the racial ladder is super real.
