Since we're encroaching on areas of diversity... http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/05/06/why-the-new-black-wally-west-is-just-offensive/
Welcome to post-racial America where the new fight is getting more women into the mainstream The article I posted stated that it's harder for completely new characters to gain a foot hold, which is why you see legacy characters go diverse
I totally agree but then make a female Green Lantern since being in the corp isn't race or gender specific. Or even an Asian Wonder Woman, make a big ceremony of it but when they do this dumb shit where they take an established character and completely change them it makes no sense. I know most assholes will pull the Nick Fury card but the entire universe was changed to pull that one off.
Miles Morales did an excellent job despite folks not liking him at the start. The suit is awesome too. That being said I can sort of see his point but most of the main stream black heroes don't have the same criminal backgrounds. Static cyborg greenlantern(John Stewart) Black lightening(Yes, I know the name) Mr. Terrific. Kaldur'ahm(aqualad... When you do a google search of aqualad, he shows up first which amazed me since he is not the first aqualad) They just aren't given a chance. I don't know why they need to play into stereotypes. It isn't like most of the black people reading the comics live in so much crime.
It satisfies the white narrative of reality which is ironic as fuck since we're talking about comics here.
Who is they... Dude you are jumping on companies Marvel can't control what DC does. ALso, DC already has a female lantern the daughter of the first green lantern. They did make a female spiderman to be fair. It isn't that easy to get spiderman's powers. I think if someone got Thor's powers then it is fair.
They being those who control this shit. I am all for a female having Thor's powers just don't call her Thor Kind of like Kara and Kal El
That's because he's a far more interesting and therefore more popular character than the original Aqualad ever was. Better backstory and better super powers by far.
I'll take you word on it. I was never an aquaman fan.Young Justice did a lot for Kaldur'ahm. Just like Justice league did the same for John Stewart. To the point that people thought green lantern was always black. It just shows if you diversify the characters that people will accept them. It was never like Barry and Hal were the first of their kinds to begin with. However, I've noticed that we have gone to the all white cast again on both DC and Marvel film universes. :smt018
This is the whole issue tho I'm all for like cage getting his own show but the background is so typical
They did? Someone care to school me on the black heroes of marvel. We already had a Black Panther series and it was awesome but I've always felt marvel was lacking in the black men superhero section. Any how, just eye candy until static drops his tv show from what I hear. Until I cam here, I didn't know who powerman was. I only knew of bishop and blade.
That article I posted said that some of those stereotypical black guys were written in by white male writers I keep telling u this shit is by design, but y'all won't listen Then again black rappers love to perpetuate that ghetto lifestyle, so I guess it wouldn't have been any better Oh and yes...xmen days of future past met their quota with storm and bishop, regardless of how many experts say the us will not have a white majority by 2050 lol
It is complicated. Cyborg is the complaint.of the opposite of a white writer. Basically people said he was a white character painted brown. Most of his g/fs were white. His history was not that much different from most white comic book heroes. If you look at most of the DC heroes... You see the same. Both Hal and John are military men. It is like you can't really win. If you create a black character that is just like any other character, people complain that he isn't black enough. If you create a black character coming from the urban area, People complain on another level. lol
Easy fixes on Marvel's part if they actually wanted to do it. No more Iron Man movies with RDJ doesn't mean they can't do any Iron Man themed/related stories with War Machine, especially since he's working for the government in the Marvel Cinematic Universe plus the fact there is an actual Mandarin out there somewhere as revealed with the Marvel One Shot on the Thor : Dark World Blu-Ray. Falcon needs to be fleshed out and given more action time, hopefully to come in Captain America 3 and leading into future Avengers. Black Panther we already know is finally coming starting in Captain America 3. On the DC movie side, they've already said Cyborg is going to be part of the Justice League. Still no word on whether or not Green Lantern will be Jordan or Stewart for Justice League, although more than likely will be Jordan if they are following the new 52 playbook for Justice League. It would be smart to introduce John Stewart IMO as Green Lantern since the Hal Jordan solo flick was a bomb for the most part. Distance the Green Lantern character as much as possible from that particular take.
Reminds me of this article I read a while back http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/18/chris-rock-black-fame_n_6179916.html
