The show is clearly aimed at comic readers who were fans of the Gotham Central comic ,which dealt with the cop side of things more than the super hero side & the general non comic reading audience who may have enjoyed Nolan's "realistic" take on Batman. Plus cop shows always seem to be ratings grabbers.

It's already been reported that their is a female Jedi apprentice role. This role just happens to be for a male character. As for other ethnicities, you make a decent point. But I'm probably a bit biased towards casting a brother.

Hey, Black men are the most fucked over race/gender combo in our society, they can at least make it up to us, by letting one of us be the lead role in Star Wars (just kidding....a little)

Am I the only one feeling like bw getting more roles means that by default bm won't get any? Lupita as the Star Wars lead? A little annoyed.

 

Oscar winners will have the first dibs on scripts and casting. There hasn't been any news about whether or not Lupita had accepted the role yet.

 

I have to agree with you. Hollywood loves it's token minority casting structure. So a BW means we probably won't see a BM in a lead role.

This might sound a bit corny, but as a society, we need more depictions of heroic BM, and you cant get any bigger or better then being immortalized in one of the most anticipated movies of all-time.

Also, I question the motivation of the writer of that article. Just reading in between the lines. But it seems to me that the author figures, if they have to have a Black person as a lead character, he would rather it be a BW than a BM.
