Pretty good clips. I thought the Wolverine costume made the actor look more like a rat and the Predator was as detailed as it could get, although the Predator could've moved and looked larger like the late Kevin Peter Hall or Ian White. I wanted to see more of Catwoman. She was hot. Deadpool was funny. The fight scene was very well choreographed and executed.

 

Is it me or was the new superman better than the other ones

 

Visuals? Yes
Story? Fuck no. I didn't give a fuck about his family like I did in the original. That scene where Pa Kent had the heart attack was heart breaking.
Jonathan Kent getting sucked up in a tornado? Who really gave a fuck.

Also something that needs to be addressed, can the Man of Steel, the most powerful being on earth please get some prettier fucking women. The tv shows did way better jobs of casting appropriate women for him. The chicks who played Lana Lang and Lois Lane on Smallville (always loved how the mom in that series was Lana Lang in the third Superman movie) are way hotter than any of the big screen versions. To this day it still bugs me that this dude gave up the powers of a God for Margot Kidder who looked like the chick you're forced to go home with at last call.

True but incredibly unlikely. Its like if you or I took on a Navy SEAL head to head, we'd most likely die quick.
Dude never fought a single day in his life and he takes on a dude who has been in wars and wins not to mention dude had a squad. The shit was way better written in Superman II at least it made some sense. He actually had to take their powers away before he could beat them.

 

Dark, I agree with you about him beating Zod and the quality of the story. Shit was poorly done. I thought the movie was worth seeing. It wasn't bad. Just lacking. I didn't mind the over the top style action. That's what I want to see in this kind of film. My issues all lay with the script. When Pa Kent died, did any of you really give a eff? You probably didn't and that's because of the script.

Again, how is a farm boy going to prevail in hand to hand combat with a similarly powered millitary trained killer? Especially one who seemed to master his new abilities in a fraction of the time it took Kal. They should have put Superman in a position where he had to do something Zod could not, and would not, be able to do; out think Superman.

Kal-el was a decendant of the scientific class. So, he is predispositioned to have a genius level intellect. Even by Kryptonian standards. That's his true strength. Zod should have been able to kick the blue off of Superman's ass. But, Superman should have won in the end because he out thought Zod. I think if that would have happenend, no one would have cared if Superman killed Zod or took him out for ice cream and a puppy (hi, Krypto).

And, seeing as how earth's first experience with aliens almost ended with the destruction of the entire human race, I don't see how everyone would be so excepting of Superman after the whole Zod debacle. Especially, given all of the destruction that happened would not have occurred had Kal not been on earth.

Hell, we can't seem to get it right with illegal aliens born on this planet, let alone aliens from another world who've just directly, or indirectly, caused untold millions of dollars of damage and the loss of thousands of lives.

If they were shooting for a real world take on the Big Blue Boy Scout they blew it on that point alone. Still loved the action and the cast. Just wish it packed more of an emotional punch and better execution story wise.

Same problem I had with Spider-Man 2 I had with this. No way all those people are going to keep his identity a secret. Just not going to happen. I've lived in small towns. People talk and gossip and tell their family members from other states ...lol you get my point.

All that destruction in a major American metrtopolitan city, yet there was no emotional heft in any of it. Not Pa Kent's death, not when he killed Zod. Not anywhere.

There was no sense of awe or amazement. The whole thing should have felt more grand , more epic. Instead, it just felt like an above average action film. As I said, worth seeing. I'm looking forward to a sequel. But it's not what it could have, should have been.

Hell, Doctor Who: The Day Of The Dr. had more of an epic and rousing feel than this big budget slugfest.

I hate to say it but Superman Returns was a better movie. It just had crappy ideas.

 

Man of Steel didn't have any of the grandeur or emotional impact that it should have because the film makers were focused on making a movie that appealed more to people who think the whole Superman concept is too idealistic & corny. He should have been able to defeat Zod without killing him. In fact how come Zod didn't get pulled back into the Phantom Zone like all the rest? Too far away from the black hole warp? Too convenient of a plot hole to do the ending that they went for is all. The destruction & any loss of life that took place IMO works to build on Lex Luthor & his motivation for hating and mistrusting Superman when he shows up, so I had no problems with it from that end.

 

Yeah, the chick from Superman Returns was plane Jane as hell. Margot Kidder was just not attractive at all. But, Amy Adams is just flat out sexy. She was great as Lois Lane.

BTW - here is what would've happened if some no named guy, with zero experience, would have walked into a large metropolitan news paper trying to get a job as a writer in this day and age:

 

The scene where Superman kills Zod, an experienced soldier and the ultimate badass, was shocking and leads to Superman's stand on not taking a life. Jonathan Kent drilled it into his skull because he was trying to help him adjust to being a human being on Earth(at least on the outside). But, with his abilities, how can he do that when people's lives are in danger and need help? The scene of Jonathan's death coincided with Jor-El's rule about human life. "It is forbidden to interfere with human history." Man Of Steel had the Batman approach and a huge dose of Michael Bay. Check out the Richard Donner version of Superman II. That made more sense than the one direct by Richard Lester, which I loved, too. But Donner's version was better. Richard Donner was filming Supernam and Superman II simultaneously but had a falling out with Alexander and Illya Salkind.

 

Don't forget supes had his powers much longer and was able to spend more time learning how to best use them

 

Amy Adams was a great Lois Lane. However, this Lois, now chosen by Jor-El as a guide and helpmate for Superman because she knows his secret. Kate Bosworth used actress Katherine Hepburn to play her interpretation of Lois Lane. Margot Kidder was a Lois Lane for her times. She was a 1970's version that was women's lib. Personally, I preferred Erica Durance as Lois Lane. The tension between her and Tom Welling's Clark Kent/Kal-El was intense and memorable. Of course, honorable mention should go to actresses Noel Neil(played Lex Luthor's dying relation in Superman Returns) and Phyllis Coates(who played Lois Lane's mother in Superman; The Movie) for their portrayals as Lois Lane.

 

That plus the Kryptonians were operating solely on the notion that they were superior on all levels be it technology & abilities so in their minds they couldn't be beaten. That arrogance made them sloppy, because they had the numbers & power to actually take over the Earth had they not been over confident & planned out an actual invasion.

 

Lana Lang in Superman III and Martha Kent in Smallville was portrayed by actress Annette O'Toole. She was in The Cat People, 48 Hours and other films and shows. In an episode of Smallville, actress Helen Slater played Lara-El, Kal-El's mother(Slater played Supergirl).

 

Wolverine would kill a Predator pretty quickly. All of the Predator's advantages are dependent on stealth. They wouldn't account for prey who can find them as easily as they find him. And if the fight with Danny Glover in Predator 2 is any indicater. Predators are not nearly at Wolverines level at one on one fighting.

This fight would last about as long as it takes for Wolverine to sniff out the Predator.

They should really do this as animated. Because A Batman Vs. Deadpool fight would be pretty over the top.

Batman has fought Deathstroke, so he knows how to fight a enemy like Deadpool. However Deadpool has no sense of honorable combat, So he would go big from the start. It would be all guns and grenades. If Batman can out last Deadpool's last bullet, then he would eventually catch Deadpool slipping. and go for the knockout. Unfortunately, unless Batman figured out Deadpool's healing factor, he would be in for a nasty surprise when his takedown only lasts a few seconds.

(I don't think Deadpool would just blurt out that he has a healing factor like he does in the video)

It's the infinite stamina of Deadpool's that would eventually cause Bats to either retreat, go for a more permanent solution (which he wouldn't) or lose.

 

I could've got with that if they had set it up that way. But, they did the opposite. They showed Zod mastering his abilities in a matter of hours. It took Clark years. Given the rules set up by the movie itself, no way Kal should have beaten him in hand to hand combat. Clark should have been made to out think Zod after getting his ass handed to him by a superior fighter.

Also, no way would he have let his father die knowing full well he had the power to save him. How many of you would stand by and watch your parent die if you could have saved him or her, regardless of what your were told? You'd act first and deal with the consequences later.

If they wanted to make a real world take on Superman, then they should have dealt with the actions real world individuals would make.

Honestly, I think Snyder, Nolan and Co. we're scared by Wacthmen's underperformance and Superman Returns modest take (and the audiences general lack of excitement for that films lack of action) that they decided to dumb it down and go the Michael Bay route.

It was good eye candy, fun to watch. But, not much else. MOS ended up being the movie equivalent of a pretty girl, with nice breasticles, hips and ass but no brains. Yeah, you can have fun with her, but there's not much there if you want to go deep.

1. Sisters- She has a brief and passionate fling with the black man she meets on a tv show. He is killed after he brings her her medication and a cake.

2. Some Kind Of Hero- She plays a high-end escort who gives Richard Pryor a freebie after he returns from being released from a POW camp in Vietnam. She gives him a blow job in a bath thub. It was funny. Richard gets her in the end. Check them out.
