Some youngsters my not remember, but the Arsenio Hall show was HUGE! Back in the day he was next to Oprah when it came to his level of influence. If a musician, actor, or politician wanted to reach the young minority market, there was no other place to go then the Arsenio Hall show. Having said that I'm not sure what he can bring to the table in 2012.
Things that make you go hmmmm.... I visited his show while I was in LA (person I stayed with did a security gig for him). It was a boring show (no woo-woo) as Natalie Cole was the guest and the performer so it was very low key and she spoke so softy I couldn't hear her and I was in the second row!
Agree with everything especially that last statement. Having said that I would love to be pleasantly surprised by his successful return. If Leno and Letterman could still do it, why not Arsenio?
I agree. He just won't be the young hip host/angle that he worked before but he can recreate himself and find a niche.
Yes. Who else is there giving a different eye? Monique and Wendy? George Lopez? There is a need for a matured man with an alternative style and viewpoint on a national stage. I would def tune it.
Good points. I remember we used to wanna stay up late every night to watch it back in the day. Wasn't it also on Arsenio Hall that we saw Bill Clinton playing the sax if I'm not mistaken? *sighs* I miss the 1990's.
Yeah, that was big back then. Got him votes. I can picture too, it's 2008 and Arsenio has Obama debut on his show. Ratings ridiculous. Arsenio was also the first to bring Rap and Hip-hop acts to the mainstream spotlight.
Thanks for bringing that back to my memory. I hope Arsenio does get another opportunity to return to late-night TV, I just would hate to see him not be as successful as he was the first time arond.
Brotha Arsenio will be back with a tqlkshow in late-2013: http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...ght-talk-show-in-2013-20120618,0,785159.story
Caught the second show tonight (missed his 'debut' last night, it was a ratings winner) http://omg.yahoo.com/video/arsenio-makes-big-return-night-235429085.html Ice Cube was his guest tonight, I enjoyed seeing him. Arsenio hasn't aged hardly at all. His stereotyping skit on the White people who work for him on if they are down or not, was interesting in a chuckle sort of way. He doesn't care how un-PC it came off, which I loved. On another note, I just realized when you shorten his name, it's Arse.
Arsenio Hall's show was, as he said,"This isn't a show, it's a party." And the energy was quite contagious. And there was also the guests, like Madonna who pretty much shamed him(she had the same effect on David Letterman's show), the hot kiss he shared with Diana Ross, Jamie Lee Curtis(when the two talked about what they do well. Arsenio stood up and said "Let me show you what I do well." Jaime suddenly layed down on the couch expecting to be taken by him.)Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson sharing the stage together, Andrew "Dice" Clay's appearance offending Star Parodi(the band's keyboardist) and his re-appearance to set the record straight, Bill Clinton's appearances, George Carlin, Barry White's appearance, The Poetry Moment by the band's bassist, Klondike, the dancing janitor, Minister Louis Farakkahn and many others. The question now is, can Arsenio Hall recapture something of that again?
I used to have to stay up late to watch him, but he was so worth it!!! soooooo showing my age by admitting that
