jesus right back at you, big guy. "Race" is bullshit. At it's essence, it just means a stream of people, which is why throughout history it has been interpreted differently by whoever's using the word. You'll have people refer to the "german race", "the nordic race" "the japanese race" and even "the american race".

Don't let people sell you on the nonsense that there are 3 or 4 scientific "races" corresponding to "black," "white," "asian" etc., like philipinos and japanese are the same race, sicilians and swiss, papua new guineans and zhosas, etc.

In fact, germans exterminated slavs because they were a different race. Japanese looked down at chinese and koreans as "inferior" races. Scientists say "black" people such papuans and australian aborigines are genetically more closely related to other asians than they are to, let's say, nigerians.

"Race" - as you think of it - is bullshit. Culture is what counts. Ask an israeli and a palestinian (both "semites") about that.

All people are basically mutts. The people who sell you that "scientific" race stuff are doing so for the only real thing it's good for: punishing you because you're born to the wrong lineage.

I'm a "black" man. I have neices who look as white as michael jackson's daughter, complete with blonde hair. Their grandma is "black", so what race are they? ("mixed?" :|) We're all mixed, as far back as you can go, which is why the race stuff should be dumped.

Exactly. The ad is not particularly offensive, just a little stupid. It sure wouldn't make me want the car, but I can see how it would work for some people.

I doubt the ad is airing in jamaica. Where it's airing, people think of jamaicans as black.

And even if the ad was indeed offensive, or "racist", it would be offensive and racist to all people who speak with the jamaican accent - i.e. all jamaicans of whatever color - so the fact that jamaicans are actually a very diverse harmonious rainbow of people is irrelevant.

    Its like that everywhere, champ.

As for the add: Weed (the best kind), can make you happy and care free, kinda like this car. I guess that was the emphasis. But ofcourse, its all subliminal.

Using challenging stereotypes has always been a good marketing tool and sometimes for the good. ;)
