Sounds Polish. But then again, also an ethnic group that is not too cosy with the black community out East. As far as family ties, that is still HUGE in the Italian-American community. Far more so than among WASPs. Getting cut off from family is like purgatory. But her attempts at what appears to be disassociation are nausea-inducing.
Italians definitely are not fond of blacks. Have you seen any Spike Lee films??? NY is full of this. I grew up around italian girls going to mostly irish/italian catholic schools all my youth. i think apart of them knows the in-jokes of italians not being "full white" so they wanna stay away from anyone who will "darken" their gene pool even more (yet strangely Italian girls TAN THE MOST of any white race ive seen) and italians (at least NYers) try too hard to seperate themselves as better than everyone. nothing wrong with having pride in your culture but even in todays society an italian girl will have a hell of a time bringin a black dude home..

I hate when people say dumb shit and they're "associated" with IR anything, cause the haters will run with it. I too doubt she's dating him. She probably liked the attention of being associated with a "winner".
If anything, I think Italian women(not Italian Americans)from Italy are more open to dating IR than their American counterparts.

I think it's because of two factors: 1) In terms of its 'Italian-ness' Italian-American culture is essentially the culture that was prevalent in Italy in the 1890s - 1920s, the period of their largest migration to the US, so they missed out on much of the cosmopolitanism that took hold in Europe to a greater degree than the US in the post-WWII period and 2) they have also absorbed the racism of the white majority society here as they have become gradually accepted as 'white' in the US. So between 19th century European rural colloquialism and US racism, they get a double dose.
Yeah, the areas here on the island are pretty divided. The towns you mentioned are in Suffolk County. I live in Nassau County, but you'll see that here too. The area I live in is mostly made up of blacks and latinos. The town next over is mainly whites. Back to what I was saying before, I saw the scene in Jungle Fever when the Italian father beat the living shit out of his daughter for dating Wesley Snipes character, I never thought it was true like that.
Well still just a movie but I wouldn't be surprised if things like that still happen today. I'm sure it's happened plenty in the past. Honestly I think most "non-white" parents would deal with it worse than White parents though. .

It varies. In the north they're as pale as Germans (part Celtic, part Frank) and in some parts of the south they're indistinguishable from Arabs. Racial and cultural (as well as economic differences) fuel a latent separatist movement in the north embodied by the Northern League party that seek to be a separate country or in union with Switzerland.
Really' I've only heard of it as an issue on the white party's side. Non whites don't tend to disown there children for dating white people. There might be questions of safety but no outright violence or cutting them off. Well unless the non white is not black and the guy is black then that's valid.
I've only really experienced this problem with white "ethnics" (Chicago term for non-WASPs), like Italian, Irish or Greek, both middle and lower class. Don't date them much for this reason. With wealthier WASPs, foreigners and hyper-liberals I don't encounter this very often.
Yeah same here in NY. I dated italian and irish girls in my teen but would never do that shit now. Especially girls who feel the need to point out that they're italian. Truthfully I'm over most American women. The race thing is old and tiresome and at this point in my life I neither have the time nor inclination to deal with people's childish hang ups.
