The grocery business thinks that it's clever with all bullshit pricing gimmicks they throw at consumers. "Buy 4 for 5.00" $1.25 per unit when it drops to $1 if the store wants or needs to clear the item. Some bargain. And how much of what we buy is actual food? You can walk for aisles and not see anything that isn't built to last a nuclear winter. The food industry and grocery business need things to stay on the shelf to maximize their profitability. Items with faster perishability are even placed back on the aisle if they've been sitting in a grocery cart overnight. Meat, eggs, "fresh" orange juice . . . you name it.
