When I drew this, it was during Hurricane Katrina. Couped up in my relative's house, while most of the parishes were under martial law/lockdown, I had to barricade myself because the National Guard were basically under direct orders to shoot to kill. So, the theme of that image is "Freedom" and the alien is basically an individual who feels like a refugee in his own country.

Also, the "penis" is really a "bio-nebula absorber" which implies that when stars explode, the alien collects the "information" and store as transitional energy. And then project the energy back into the deepest dark parts of the universe, essentially creating new life.

We're the essential component of that.
