I want the Eagles to win, but I'm going to say the Patriots. I don't think the Eagles have a good enough defense to win it all.
I'm a football fanatic. I am a fan of the game first, so I could give positive and negative views of Every and All NFL teams. I happen to live in the home state of the current NFL powerhouse, so that bothers some as we clearly get too much press. Maxy is totally right. It's not really goes off on a limb to pick the team that happens to have homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs and the best record in the NFL. But here is my break down of the other teams in the playoffs this year. In order of possibilities to win the NFL Title/Super Bowl: AFC 1. New England Patriots I would think that stopping the Offense behind Tom Brady would cause a problem for any team. The Defense will ALWAYs play second fiddle as long as Tom is on the field, but the hold their own against most offenses. They key to their scheme is to force the pass. Early on in games and drives, they give up tons of yardage, but if they hold you to a field goal, all Tom & co. have to do is go down and score a TD: score 7 to 3, and your chasing from there on. The only weak point is if they play a high powered offense that can score with them, such as the Green Bays, Atlantas, and Philly on their better days. Then anything goes. 2. Pittsburgh Steelers My most hated team. I will always respect though, as they play old school football: run the ball and play solid defense. They also do this very well, particularly in cold weather. Ben Rapelburger is over-rated slightly, but who argues with the jewelry? They have a few clear weaknesses. Most of which being, if Polamalu is not on the field, they have SERIOUS issues. They also have problems scoring more than 20 points. 3. Baltimore Ravens This is a tough team to read. They have all the tools, but their head coach is a bit of a nutty professor. The fact of the matter is they are a team built to beat the Steelers. They have a MORE EFFICIENT QB, plus the running game and defense to match. They added Boldin as a passing threat, but that actually throws the offense out of its signature run-first nature. I think as long as they stay true to handing the rock off to Ray Rice, the sky is the limit. Weakness: That defense is showing age and starting to SERIOUSLY struggle late in games. 4. Kansas City Chiefs Really you ask?? 4th in the AFC? Trust me folks, they are BUILT for football in January. The defense headed by Romeo Crennel is seriously underrated. They have a game managing QB, and can run the ball on you all day. They draw a tough matchup with the Ravens. Can they beat em? Probably not. This is will come down to who doesn't turn the ball over. This will be my favorite game to watch today. The X-factor: The game is at Arrowhead. This is a fact not respected by non-football freaks: Arrowhead stadium is rated as the TOUGHEST venue to be a visiting team and walk out with a win. It really is. I've found 3 websites that all rank it in the top 2 of 32 home fields. I'm picking the Chiefs in an upset this afternoon. 5. Jets Is it silly for me to believe the jets beat the colts? Not really. I think it's the Jets time to win a playoff game against a weakened Colts team. Too many injuries and the Jets defense showing up one more time to say they belong could send Peyton Mannings career into it's decline. Another battle of turnovers. The Jets will need to run the ball and limit the Sanchises mistakes. 6. Colts I know, I can't believe i am rating them this low. They are healthier than they've been most of the season, as they should get Joe Addai back tonight. If, and I mean if, they can run against the jets, just enough to balance the attack, I believe Peyton can handle the rest. it Will be a shootout though, as I don't believe in that Colts defense, AT ALL. I guess thats the issue IMO. Maybe i'm disrespecting. Hey, i'm not perfect. I'll do my NFC ratings in my next post. A lot of words, I know.:smt107
Ok, let me see if I can bang this out real quick... NFC odds to make Superbowl and Playoff Breakdown, In my view: (This will be tough as the NFC has a lot of equally matched teams that will all match up with each other) NFC 1. Atlanta Falcons I like Matt Ryan. I like him a lot. I think that as long as he doesn't have to win the game with a drive, Atlanta is gonna smoke some people. Homefield helps, but they just play good football, period. In all 3 phases of the game, they are a solid football team. Weakness? Just catching a hot team on an off day will do it. That's how the Saints most recently beat em. 2. Green Bay Packers Why am I putting the 6th seed as the 2nd most likely to make it to the big game? Cause they are the best 6th seed i've seen in a LONG time. As long as they don't commit 17 penalties in 1 game (early in the season against Chicago), they should win. Aaron Rodgers is a beast to be reckoned with. no true running attack aside, they have the best passing attack around. Better than the Patriots. They were playing in must win games the last 2 weeks, so it's been the playoffs in Wisconsin for a while already. They're defense plays with a nasty streak, too, for those fans, like me, who like that. Only weakness: playing 3 road games. It's really not horrible though, cause if they were in Green Bay in 10 degree weather, they would be weakened by the LACK of a running game. 3. Philadelphia Eagles They just fit here. Good team, definitely. Great team? yet to really be proven. Another team that found a way to lose to Chicago. I DO mean that. They lost the game, not the other way around. As you'll see from where I placed the Bears, I really don't believe in em. Eagles belong as a 3 because they get the Packers in the best game of the weekend on sunday at 4, and for the record, I'm picking the Pack on the road. An Andy Reid led Eagles team has proven a few times this year they can have a bum game, and I feel this is a setup for a hell of a shootout. How can I see Philly winning. Well that is an easy one: Mike Vick needs to go the fuck off!! However, I expect a lot of blitzing from Gang Green, so Vick will be running for his life most of the evening anyway. Oddly enough, the Eagles have the better running game of the 2, so maybe Lesean McCoy can take some pressure off of everyone's favorite token black QB. (there, I said it) 4. New Orleans Saints The Saints get the 4 hole as I think going on the road with a beat up team may be the end of the line for em. I can't be bold enough to take the Seahawks on Sunday, but if I were a betting man (and I am), I would totally take the Seahawks with the 11 points vegas is offering. Hmm, another team that can't run the ball. How do the saints win tomorrow? Reggie Bush needs to show that heisman ability to win a game (wait, I think he gave that trophy back...). They also need to limit turnovers. My final score, in an UGLY, cold, wet weather game: 13 - 7, (fill blank here...) Seriously, THIS ONE COULD GO EITHER WAY (Saints pull it off, somehow, IMO) 5. Chicago Bears I'll start off positive: The bears are actually showing balance on offense, which is a great thing for a team slated to play at least 1 home game after a bye weak to rest. The defense is playing well of late, except for that home beatdown by, oh yeah, those pesky Patriots. I respect the defense, I really do. I don't respect that QB who suffers from Brett Favre disease who happens to be having a career year. I can't argue with the numbers, but I can totally argue that Jay (My arm is stronger than John Elway's EVER was) Cutler will throw 2 or possibly 3 picks to lose a game a week from now. That's about it. Cutler sucks, and he loses the game for em. Sorry Bears fans. I'm not gonna say get a new QB. He just needs to fuckin grow up and stop thinking he's god's gift to football. Oh wait, in final, the reason they get a 5 ranking is due to them never really dominating a game, except MAYBE that Eagles game. Some would call it a good matchup. I call it the Eagles having an off day. 6. Seattle Seahawks No, there's not much I can say here. 7 and 9 and a division champ. eh. Funny enough, they will hang around enough against the Saints to make all of Louisiana squirm. Get some draft picks and come back next year, Pete. Soooo, Super Bowl setup: Wildcard Playoffs Jets Beat Colts Packers Beat Philly Raven PROBABLY beat Chiefs, though I picked the Chiefs... Saints Edge Seahawks edit: I'll do another post for each round, kinda fun. Enjoy the Games. for you Philly fans hopefully I'm wrong.:smt004
Man did you see him going off on his receiver on the sideline lol.... I can already tell this is going to be a crazy ass postseason.
I run a football pool every week during the regular season and then 6 people buy in for the play-offs. We pick numbers to see who will pick their teams in what order. We each pick an NFC team and an AFC team (obviously). My picks: Kansas City and Atlanta. I was hoping to get the Bears. LOL. Oh well. My hopes rest with Atlanta, though after the Seattle win today, the play-offs are anybody's guess. Can you imagine if the Seahawks go all the way to the Superbowl? That would be madness with their record.
