Marilyn Monroe w/ Black Man photo

The story of this photo, as Travilla and Bill Sarris tell it, is that he and Marilyn spent the evening at an almost exclusively black club in Los Angeles - something that just wasn't done in 1952. The studio was outraged, especially after her nude photograph scandal in March of that year, and the fact that she had just been on the April cover of Life magazine and hailed as 'The Talk of Hollywood.' As a result of being 'caught on camera,' they fired Travilla from the film they were working on. But Marilyn - one of Travilla's closest friends - stood up and said 'If he goes, I go.' And of course, they let him stay, but they were successful in keeping this picture out of the press." Until 2009 when it was found in Travilla's old possessions.

The studio objected to their star being photographed with a black man. This was photographed in the 5-4 Club in South Central Los Angeles, an all-black club.

Marilyn, William Travilla and an unidentified Black man. The mystery of course is who was the Brotha?

The look on the Brothas face is priceless.

Marilyn Monroe was fearless it seemed.

i do like the way she supposedly stood up for the man, by saying if he got the axe, she would leave the scene too.

not many people have that kind of loyalty/integrity

that's not even about race sometimes either...that shit can happen anywhere. many people would keep quiet and just collect them ducats

 

see that often in the workforce, especially with non-union positions. Collective bargaining has demonstrated to be more effective for the whole, than solo attempts at getting things changed. One man is a simple loss. A dozen is a disaster.

with that said and done, i've heard situations where one of my coworkers attempted to rally the troops, and head to a director about something that was wrong with the job. when it came down to pushing the ball into the endzone, he found himself without the squad that egged him on, giving him empty promises of support. he still has his job, but they left his ass hanging in the wind, so that they could save face and keep their jobs.
