In your situation though,, maybe he really was broke as I believe he just moved countries didn't he, but if he had planned on meeting you for a date, he should have put some major money aside for it. Or if he was in such a bad financial state, what is wrong with meeting you for a drink, like you offered later,,, or asking to posone the date till Wednesday when he was paid rather then suggesting the ol' bangalang...

Depends on what kind of relationship you two have at the moment, if you have been talking for a while up till now,,, why not go for the lunch, see what he has to say for himself and go from there,,, what do you have to loose, and hey, the lunch is on him....

 

As long as he was not straight offensive.. he deserves a second chance - just keep your feelers out so to make sure that what happend wasnt a typical thing for him - or just a fluke.
