Now most normal rational adults on here realize you're only referring to those specific BW who bash BM, but there will always be the clueless who need for you to write the word "some" every fucking time you make a general statement about anything.

I like this train of thought but there is even another train of thought. Even though I know what you mean, I know that there are going to be people who do not. You, karma and I are all aware of it. Yet, SOME continue to do it any way. This is what confuses me about the people who do not put in "some" knowing that there are people who are going to interpret them from the words that they type.(novel idea, people interpreting others from what they type) My questions to those who know that someone will interpret you wrongly even though they read correctly what you typed and got exactly what you typed correctly. Is it really that hard to type in some?

edit: I think you are suppose to type the way you think. It leaves less interpretations. That has become one of the biggest problems in writings. People not writing the way they think and leaving it to other to figure it out(supreme court and constitution). Not everyone(even though I do) thinks like you do. People need to know that is a reality and have to be as precise as humanly possible in posting or writing what they mean or face being misinterpreted. Had some had written some, this talk would not even be here. all this just because someone didn't type correctly some and left the work to others to misinterpret what they posted.

Yes it is. My school of thought is simple: if the subject matter doesn't pertain to you, then you shouldn't get offended. Period. If it offends you, then maybe you *should* be offended.

 

I am not arguing what is offensive or what isn't but of leaving others to misinterpret what you say. You are suppose to get your complete message across. Remember the last time I commented you leaving some out. I knew what you meant and you knew what you meant. I had to make that comment so that you could say what you meant. a lot of you know that some people are going to take your words on the post and not look deeper. Why not simply just type what you are really thinking instead of leaving it to others to misinterpret? It won't kill you to type in some. I have to wait for your response because maybe I misinterpreted something.

 

I've seen people use the word "some" numerous times through out a post, then forget to use it one time and get pounced on. It can get pretty cumbersome if you're having a convo which deals in generalities, because then you're using it constantly throughout every paragraph. Then you forget to use it in one sentence out of a hundred and next thing you know- that sentence gets quoted and you're accused of talking about EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF A GIVEN POPULATION (even though you've said "some" multiple times earlier in the same post!!). So I think it's also necessary for a reader to use a little common sense and pay attention to the context of the given generality.

The most i'll do is establish in the beginning of a post who i'm referring to. I might also further specify once or twice more, but that's it. I refuse to put the word "some" every other sentence.

 

I'm posting on a forum, not writing a novel. I'm typing plain as day. If peeps don't get me that's on them. Those that know, know.

I dont think its a matter of getting offended.
For the most part we do understand what the poster mean.. but sometimes it really comes acorss as intended as a generalization and I think its then, that people question it, its not a general response everytime that someone dont type out "some".

I do agree with you but I also think that words such as "everybody", "nobody", "always" and "never" are words that rarely should be used.

Like if you are in an argument with your SO and they say to you "you never do" or "you always do"..... most men and women wouldnt be happy to hear that. It can be demoralizing in its implied negativity.

But yes.. like my stepdad used to say:
"if you throw a stick into a pack of dogs, the dog that ets hit will yelp" also applies - so its a mixed bag arguments to this that equally applies.

ha There lies the problem common sense. What is common sense to one person may not be common sense to another. You can't leave it up to people to figure things out because there will be that one person who will not figure it out. In a debate, People will not be sensible and will point out that one mistake. I have had that happen to me as well. I always like to say that people should think that common sense is what you were born with which is pretty much close to no knowledge.

Here is the thing Shaft2K4 I don't know what you mean. I don't know your intentions. In person you can get away with saying certain things because you can use body language, voice changes, and pause and breaks in your speech to get your point across. But with writing, emails, text messages, etc all these non-verbal signs are lost so what you write becomes even more important because one wrong word or even a typo can completely change the meaning of what you were trying to say. There is a big difference between "Americans are fat" and "Most Americans are fat". Sentence one implies that all Americans are overweight where the 2nd sentence implies a majority of Americans are overweight.

Write what you mean and mean what you write. Don't leave your message up for debate. Otherwise you have a situation where you have one Bible but a thousand different denominations.
