While waiting for the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake, I've been playing the original Legend of Zelda (NES version) for the first time on my son's SNES mini. I only have the last two of nine levels to go, and level 8 is kicking my butt. lol I suppose I've done alright considering how user un-friendly it is, but I'm losing patience trying to get through one annoying ass enemy in particular to get to the frigging level 8 boss. The levels' final bosses are surprisingly easy to beat, if you can manage to get to them that is. Oh well. I'm aiming to beat the game in time for the OOT's release, so hopefully I'll get it done by then. For what it is, and how it was made, it's still an enjoyable game overall.

I still haven't finished the Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link yet either, but I'm in no hurry to get back to it. It's more annoying than it is fun, but I'll eventually get around to it again...maybe. lol
I've already got this one preordered, too. I'm embarrassed to say that I've never beaten the original completely, but I have finished all of the dungeons. I just never seem to be able to actually get to the ending. But in a few days, I plan on being "sick" so that I can finally say I've beaten it.

My son ordered one for me as an early birthday gift. lol The important thing is that you get it done at some point, especially before the new one is ready. It sounds like you'll be putting those sick days to good use. We have a "professional development" day Friday, but I'm taking a personal day instead—not for the sake of the game I've been playing, but I'll for sure be using that time to finish it before OoT's release day.

I still have my older save somewhere on my computer (I went super nerd and played the 3DS version on my PC via emulation with some graphical enhancements) and it's not the OG version, but I count that one as the original. But I have also played the OG version and beaten all of the dungeons...and even then I never got around to finishing it.

If I can remember where I was, I'll probably pick it back up to see if I can finally finish it. It would take too long for me to start from scratch with an entirely new save file.

The anticipation about this one is reaching the boiling point.

I have been re-watching Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power and thinking about what makes a good villain. I have noticed over time that I have a preference for a certain type of villain. I think it says something about the nature of evil as a moral force both in books/films, and in general in our lives.

I have heard actors who portray villains in films/television say that they seek to find the humanity in their character, because otherwise the character would be unrelatable for the viewer. Multiple actors have said that they seek to humanize their villains because every character thinks that their own machinations are for the good, even absolute villains like Palpatine. `At first I thought that was exactly the view that I shared, but have lately (this week) begun to see things differently, or, if not completely differently, then with a bit of nuance.

I have noticed that the common characteristic of my favorite movie villains, is a sort of resignation, and world-weariness, that they carry about themselves. It is not so much that they view their actions as necessary for the greater good (even while they behave as ultimate villains),but that they view themselves and their actions as inevitable, like a force of nature. They take no particular glee in what they must do, but know only that they must carry out the plans to fruition, regardless of the consequences. They seem to be almost sad in the knowledge of what is to come. The force that drives them is not always the same: sometimes destiny, sometimes god (or God), sometimes the mere force of events beyond their control, or occasionally their own force of will. Whatever, the motivation, it often or almost always appears to the character as if this motivating force is a character in and of itself. Villains who seem to be just evil are often less exciting. For example, while I loved Darth Maul as a character, it was more about his fighting style, look and kick-ass double bladed lightsaber. His motivation never seemed to be a thing other than that he was rage-filled and wanted to fight. Perhaps that is because the storyline never fleshed him out fully, but it left him as only a pawn, not someone following Palpatine for his own purposes. That being said, The Clone Wars animated series did a much better job or developing his character, but my characterization of him stands.

Some of my favorite villains, in no particular order:
1) Roy Batty (Blade Runner)
2) Darth Vader
3) Adar (The Lords Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power)
4) The Borg Queen
5) Thanos

Super nerd emulation gaming is awesome; emulators are the best option to play sometimes. I have most of the Nintendo consoles and handhelds, but emulators are easier than the hassle of dragging out the old equipment. I hope you're able to find it, so you can finish. Starting from scratch would suck with the new arrival coming so soon.

I still have most of my old consoles but don't have a way to hook them all up at the same time unless I do something insane to my house. I think emulators are amazing, though. Makes me glad my laptop can run basically all of them.
