AWA Launches First Title in Webtoon Format

Artists, Writers, and Artisans Studios is going ahead with a launch for its first title, The Resistance, by J. Michael Straczynski and Mike Deodato, Jr., in webtoon format (vertical scrolling) on its own site and on webtoons sites WEBTOONS and Tapas.

The company is also urging retailers to embed the free content on their sites to build anticipation for the release of the print edition, when it comes.

Over 10,000 people have read The Resistance #1 on substandard bootleg sites to date, the company notes, indicating interest in reading high-quality digital versions of the material made widely available and free.

The plot of The Resistance is timely, set after a global pandemic that kills hundreds of millions and leaves behind 15 to 20 million people that have acquired superpowers as a result of the disease.

The launch of this title, the first in AWA’s line, was planned as a major event for the new, well-funded publisher. As a new company, a quick pivot to this novel strategy is a lot easier than it is for companies with dozens or scores of titles in the pipeline. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Did anyone watch S1 of Picard? If so, what were your thoughts?

I'm curious if I'm the only Trek fan that feels the way I do about the show?

TNT's Snowpiercer Rushes To TV For Earlier-Than-Expected Debut
    April 2020

The long-gestating “Snowpiercer” series will now bow two weeks ahead of schedule on TNT.

The series will debut on May 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It was originally set to begin airing on May 31.

“’Snowpiercer’ is one of the most anticipated original series of 2020 and in this climate, viewers are craving thrilling, engaging, edge-of-your-seat content that speaks to them on a deeper level,” says Brett Weitz, general manager for TNT, TBS and truTV. “It is extremely important that we continue with our promise to meet audiences where they are, and to that effect, we are moving up ‘Snowpiercer’s’ premiere so that fans can enjoy this futuristic series even earlier.”

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, “Snowpiercer” centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. It is based on the graphic novel and 2013 film of the same name.

The series stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Jaylin Fletcher.

Here is something kind of cool I found: There is a documentary about the best Star Trek series (in my opinion) Deep Space Nine called What We Left Behind.

In the documentary, the original writers plot out a hypothetical new episode. The fictional episode features a new Starship named the USS Emmett Till. I'm not sure if this is considered "canon" but it's still kind of cool that Star Trek would acknowledge that piece of human history. I wonder how the humans would explain to aliens the significance of the name?
