I don't care how great you are at what you do or even what schools people go to, there are certain arenas you will never be privy to.

All this really has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm referring to. I'm not going to get into it here. What I said is the truth, whether you or anyone else wants to believe it or not.

You totally missed the point. Let me make it clear. White skin alone does make things accessible to you. You will not come of the street as a white person or even a male and be handed the keys to the kingdom. For people obsessed with money and power it ultimately boils down to do you have the ability to help me protect or increase my wealth.
What you said is honestly condescending af. I expect more from you.

^^ White skin plays a big part in that street person getting more a second, third or fourth look than a black person from the same walk of life.

Poor and white = struggling hardworking woman or man trying to get by.
Poor and black = criminal, thug, ghetto, ect.

Thank you for living on Planet Earth. We Earthlings are clearly in short supply.

Yeah that's all things being equal and in this particular arena all things rarely are not equal. So yes a white person particularly a male will have an advantage over everyone else, but lets say the same white guy went to nowhere U and got a job because someone knows his dad, he will not get access to the same account as a black female who went to Yale who consistently brings the firm 20 percent or more per year. Will the white guy get more mentoring? Perhaps, but its meaningless if he can't perform. If you want to make a million a year would you rather keep and promote the person who can bring you 1.2 million a year or the well meaning guy who looks like you who can only bring in half that.
It's weird that I'm explaining this to reasonably intelligent people who see how the world works. Yes race matters but it pales in stark comparison to wealth. Remember all of these corporations and governments are happy to fuck everyone over regardless of race if it means getting even a little more for themselves.

I get it, know it and have seen it.

There are barriers to access to certain strata of society that skin color alone cannot grant you access
High end investment banking and brokerage firms, particularly in NYC, can be very cliquish and inclusion into those worlds, even with the right or 'wrong' skin color, can be just about who you know and who you went to school with.

Random people would be surprised how many of these folks at top investment banks and brokerage houses work with a number of people they've known since HS.

That said, talent and insight can still help overcome these barriers if you show the ability to make other people money.

People don't realize even getting into top law schools and MBA programs can be aided by where you went to school and where you work before applying to grad school.

I knew a woman who told me once that JP Morgan could place ANY of their 4th and 5th year analysts and traders in Harvard's MBA program because they had five slots 'carved in stone' at the business school.

I wonder what percentage of young analysts at Berkshire Hathaway get placed at top 5 MBA/law programs??

This is the type of shit most people have no real sense of.

The 1%ers have all kinds gates and firewalls to make sure they maintain the status quo that keeps themselves and their ilk at the top of the food chain.

The only positive is that many of these barriers have some give and flexibility to them and generally bend for actual talent or special aptitude.

    Exactly. You completely nailed it.
I went to a really good prep school and ok State schools but I got my last position because a friend from high school went to one those top schools we went out for drinks with some of his other friends and I was talking about Bitcoin in 2012 when it was still around 20 bucks. It went up to 1k in 2013. People remembered my enthusiasm they remembered how I said bitcoin would be big. It crashed all the way down to 250 and most people would have concentrated on the 1k to 250 drop but they remembered when it was at 20 and I said it would take off. Of course that didnt land me a position but it opened doors. That coupled with growing up in Westchester and going to the rival prep school of one of the associates got me on someone's radar. These are the things that make a difference. Just being a white guy from Michigan who went to state won't even get you into the lobby. That's the point I was trying to make.

I understand that and agree with you guys on that to an extent, because it's all about percentages and remember we are ALWAYS up against systematic racism at all levels rich, poor or in between. Remember affirmative action something that POC fought for has benefited white women more than poc.

No darlin....you are totally missing the point. The conversation was about white men protecting their own. I'm talking about something very different than you are. You are only talking about a particular level of access. I'm talking about those who truly have power. It's not condescending, it's simply the truth. A truth that only comes from experience and access.

Those who truly have power like NY bankers want to retain and expand it. I think we're saying the same thing here.

This thread is about to jump to the illuminati in 3...2...1.

People continue to miss that while Washington, D.C. is the nation's most important city, NYC is the most POWERFUL one.

NYC runs Capitol Hill and the WH and has done so for almost 100 years.

Funny we live in both respective areas but what do we know lol. Two things are blarringly obvious money is the motivation for all things and people in a position to get more will usually do it all costs. If were to take the popular argument to heart then there should litetally be no successful non white non male non straight successful people. If people think Obama and Collin Powell are the same as Billy Joe Bob from West Virginia then I greatly over estimated the intelligence in this thread.

    Illuminati!!! (Joking, sort of)

So if Washington runs the world and NYC runs Washington, then NYC runs the whole world.
