In seriousness, we've lived through a Pence presidency: it was called the Bush presidency. It was really bad.

However, with Trump, I legitimately fear nuclear war, so in comparison another Bush presidency doesn't seem so bad. If those are my realistic options right now, I choose Pence.

 

Honestly this is distilled, classic Fox News.

 

The one good thing about Trump's presidency is that his laziness and general incompetence mean that he is completely unable to get much done. The fact that he is so openly self-destructive is actually kind of a good thing. If we had President Ted Cruz for example, things would be much worse.

 

I wasn't a fan of Bush but I don't think he was as ideologically dogmatic as Pence would be. When Bush was governor of Texas he largely stayed out of social issues, for example. When Pence was governor of Indiana he was the exact opposite. Whenever Bush talked about his faith and religious beliefs it always came across like he was pandering. With Pence it seems a lot more sincere.

A crook pardoning a crook. I don't care how they legally get this president out of office. I want it done. 2020 can't come soon enough.

 

Stuff like this makes it ever clearer that we liberals have *got* to come together. It means we're all going to need to compromise.

For you Clinton types (including me), you may get a candidate for your house district or for president that is perhaps too liberal for your tastes. Perhaps he's sanctimonious and acts like he's the only "true" or "pure" progressive. He may not be perfect, but he's way, way better than the alternative here. You need to vote.

For Bernie types, you may see candidates who are too moderate for your tastes. Perhaps they trust the "establishment" or the "elites" more than you would personally prefer. But surely this is better than the alternative.

This is what happens when we refuse to compromise and come together. All those liberals who refuse to vote unless they get their perfect candidate are killing us. Lastly, I'd point out that there are forces in the world *actively working* to keep us angry with each other. They know that they liberals are less powerful if they remain divided, and so they produce armies of twitter trolls and bots to exacerbate the animosity between us. Please, I beg you, do not fall for this. We need to compromise.

 

I get what you're saying, but compromise is a tricky thing, a lot of times it requires those with the power to cede some of that power to others. The establishment Democrats proved quite decisively in the last election that they were unwilling to do that.

Hillary had a chance to reach out to the progressive branch of the Democratic Party. But her vindictiveness towards Bernie and unwillingness to anger her Wall Street friends kept her from making a compromise that probably would have won the election for her.

 

Not to mention how can you galvanize people if they feel like it's all bullshit. Obama was a great example of a candidate who inspired people. He made me want to get up and vote, he made me believe I actually mattered. Humans are emotional dismissing that is how we got here. Trump recognized that and played everyone like a damn fiddle while a bunch of self righteous assholes got to ride high on their "morals"

 

In other words, have him actually saying what conservatives have said Obama's been saying for 8 years? Sounds good to me

She did this after seeing it gained traction with Bernie. She played the centrist game up until then why else pick Kaine as a running mate. Nothing progressive about that guy

 

Oh please, The democratic party may have swung slightly more progressive but Hillary dropped the ball when she picked Tim Kaine as her VP if she and the Democratic party was really interested in unity and progressives they would have picked a VP that drew the Bernie supporters in. Hillary lost the election in no small part due to progressives staying home because the DNC and Hillary alienated them.

I will, however, take back the "vindictive" comment. I don't know if her choice of Kaine over a progressive candidate was a vindictive choice or not, but to a lot of progressives, it seemed to be. Also, an opinion can't be a lie.
