CREED Director Ryan Coogler Will Direct Marvel's BLACK PANTHER








Marvel Studios officially announced that Ryan Coogler, director/writer of critically acclaimed films such as Creed & Fruitvale Station, will helm the eighteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Black Panther. The film will star Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa and is expected to hit theaters February 16, 2018.

Marvel president Kevin Feige released this statement about Coogler, who is easily the most accomplished director Marvel has landed to date, signing on: “We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family, The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

Syfy's New Alien Series, Hunters

Syfy has announced a premiere date for newcomer Hunters.

Hunters, a thriller that revolves around a highly classified government organization that tracks and fights alien terrorists, will premiere Monday, April 11 at 10 p.m.

The series is from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Natalie Chaidez (who will also serve as show runner) and Emile Levisetti, and is inspired by best-selling author Whitley Strieber’s novel, “Alien Hunter.”

Nathan Phillips stars as Baltimore FBI agent Flynn Carroll, whose wife goes missing. Britne Oldford plays Regan, a valuable operative of the Exo-Terrorism Unit who keeps secrets of her own.

The series also stars Julian McMahon as McCarthy, a dangerously unhinged terrorist.

Danish actress Connie Nielsen, best known for playing Roman queen Lucilla in Gladiator, has joined the cast of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated take on the DC icon.

Gal Gadot is playing the Amazonian princess and the cast already includes Chris Pine, portraying love interest Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and Ewen Bremner. Pine recently said the movie is set during World War I.

Nielsen will play Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons and mother of Princess Diana, aka Wonder Woman.

The movie is currently shooting in the UK and Italy, will be released June 23, 2017.

Nielsen’s recent credits include a stint on the Kevin Bacon crime drama The Following as well as The Good Wife.

 

Also was in Law & Order: SVU, and was in The Devil's Advocate. I think she will do great in this role. In that scene in Gladiator when she orders every soldier and gladiator with the line, "He was a soldier of Rome. Honor him." I cried.

 

‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix




Netflix has picked up a second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Jessica Jones was the second in a four-series Marvel package to debut and the second to land a 13-episode second-season renewal, joining Daredevil. Jessica Jones, from executive producer Melissa Rosenberg, also introduced the character of Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, who headlines the upcoming third Marvel series for Netflix. No premiere date for the second season of Jessica Jones was announced. Netflix’s Ted Sarandos hinted that the release pattern for the second seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones would depend on miniseries The Defenders, which has a contractual premiere date.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which has been well received by critics, is described as a suspenseful, edgy look into the life of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) who, after a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, is rebuilding her personal life and career as a private investigator in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

Here is what executive producer/showrunner Rosenberg said about changes she would like to make in Season 2 in an interview with Deadline at the series’ November launch:

“I think one of the things I would be able to do now, that’s harder to do in the first season, is to really expand on the ensemble. Poor Krysten Ritter, she was in every scene that we shot, we beat the crap out of her. She was a shell of a human being by the time we ended, and that is not sustainable. But when you have a show that’s called Jessica Jones, if Jessica Jones isn’t in a scene the rest of it become almost irrelevant until you earn other character storylines. You’ve got to flesh out those characters enough that you can travel.

So, I would hope to further expand on the ensemble, and on Jessica’s world. She ends in a very different place than she started off. She’s still going to be Jessica Jones — that is not going to change. She will continue to drink and make mistakes, and accidentally drop people onto train tracks, but something has changed for her by the end of this season, and I’d just love to explore that in the second season.”

 

If Jessica Jones and Luke Cage's on-screen characters follow the same relationship arc as their comic book counterparts. It would make sense to combine Jessica Jones season 2 with Luke Cage season 2.

Yep. Pretty good so far. It's has those "realistic hard sci-fi" elements that the Battlestar Galactica update had.

 

Agreed. The gritty crime and political elements keep it firmly grounded.

First Footage From Wonder Woman Movie

Warner Bros. has released a featurette in conjunction with its Tuesday night prime time special on DC movies showing the first footage from the Wonder Woman movie, which is currently in production.


Wonder Woman will be released June 23, 2017.

 

Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen. Coming in Feb to the CW's Arrow.

 

Looks good, Vixen imo is one of the hottest super heroines.

Steve Rogers Returns as Cap

Marvel is bringing back Steve Rogers as Captain America in a new series in which he’ll also get a new shield closer to the original Timely Comics version.

The new title, Captain America: Steve Rogers, will feature “a more timeless take, with Captain America facing off against Hydra and his classic rogues gallery,” according to Nick Spencer, who’s writing the series. Spencer will also continue to write the Sam Wilson version of the title, with a more “ripped-from-the-headlines approach.”


The new title was first revealed on an ABC prime time special on the character’s 75th anniversary. Marvel will release a special commemorative magazine in March, along with a special issue of Captain America: Sam Wilson that will feature Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and Bucky Barnes.

Re-watching 'Serenity'. Chiwetel Ejiofor's portrayal of the crew's nemesis, The Operative, is amazing.

 

Marvel comes down hard on fan-made X-Men project.

Marvel/Disney have been kind of lenient on some fan made artwork in the past, but this guy went a bit too far. (there is also some speculation that he was trying to financially benefit from the project)

Also, you have to remember that Marvel is purposefully trying to lower the profile, of all of it's non-Marvel Cinematic Universe properties.

Marvel doesn't want any promotion or marketing of X-Men or Fantastic Four as long as they don't have the film rights.
