nah, he is much more black than i am. there are plenty of brothas whiter(not in color by the way ma'am)than Mr. Colin Powell.
I know what you mean A few days, I went to check on a room for rent. The guy who showed me the place was black man from West Africa. At the end of our conversation, I admitted to me that he wasn't expected a black man with my name, let alone one who spoke like I did. Like other people that I've only spoken with over the phone, but not met in person, he thought I was British. But, I'm Canadian. Go figure.
I see brothers trying to be the hardest thugs and I also see brothers trying to be white - neither is right
lmao. I mean, most likely when one says you're acting white, they mean that if you're smart, not a thug, respectful, educated, has a job, or do things that are not the norm for black people then you're acting white..and that isn't right either. But if you mean they are trying to squeeze their way into white culture so much so that they want nothing to do with blacks and our culture---not the negative parts of it--- then I guess that isn't right neither. Thugs are never right.
whats wrong with being a nice guy, working hard, not into crime, into education, treating people nicely and then being labeled acting white? we didnt call ourselves acting white, the thugs and hoodrats called us that.
that should be called a decent intelligent human being.. the term white just doesn't sound right. There are white people who do not fit that description.
"You're the whitest black guy I know." If I had a dollar for how many times I've heard that I would be fucking rich. You speak so well..you don't talk black..blah blah blah, I've heard it all. It doesn't help that I have a Boston accent as well. I went to Washington DC for an accounting seminar four years ago, and black girls were fascinated by my accent, like it wasn't real. Now that I think about it, white girls were too. I have a saying that I live by..you can take the brother outta the neighborhood but you cant take the neighborhood outta the brother. No matter where I am, I know WHERE I came from. I speak "King James English" sprinkled with slang, why is it that I get this label. The school I went to was prestigious, which was/is mostly Caucasian, but why should I be labeled as such. I just don't get it. But that's life. At the end of the day, I think it HELPS me rather than HINDERS me. Speaking well and dressing well has helped me get good jobs, and white people aren't "afraid to approach me". There IS an expectation that because I speak well and am approachable, I make big bank and that's further from the truth. Oh well. But honestly, I take it tongue in cheek, and I move on. Edit: I phrased it wrong, I make a little bank, but that's it. Being black and acting black are two different things for me. For some it is the same thing, but not for me. Peace. Black Tiger
